After spendin 600 euros is 7 days it was time to get out of Munich before i ran out of money and have to go home 5 months early. I managed to get up early and catch the early train to Plzen my first stop in Czech Rebublic. After a borin uneventful train ride i got to Plzen, comin into Plzen the place looked like quite the dump, but once in the main part of the town it wasnt so bad. My first 3 hours in Plzen were spent walkin around lookin for a hostel even after goin to the information office i still couldnt find the dump, so i decided to cut my loses a stay at a crappy hotel in the center of town, the hotel was a waiste of money 23 euro for ... read more

Geo: 50.0878, 14.4205Hi all,We have arrived. Sorry for the delay. After a very long day of travel... one canceled flight and one delayed flight, two trains and a car (20+ hours of travel) we made it to Prague. Fighting time change and exhaustion we hit the town that night. We decided the best place to start was the oldest brewery in town, U Fleku. Great place, dark beer and goulash. Guys playing um-pa music and people singing. It was fabulous. We then hit El Gott another brewery. Smaller and not as nice. Stayed for one Budweiser (the real one) and then started our way back to the apartment. We stumbled upon a midevil themed restaurant and had to go in. Well, it was great. Good beer, mead and cool atmosphere.Sunday we hit the castle. This castle ... read more

So my digital camera has died and I haven't been able to develop my disposable camera yet. I spent friday through tuesday in London visiting Kati, Mark, and Oliver. Had a lovely dinner with Peter on sunday night. Then wednesday I flew to Prague. Well the city is beautiful, but I was sexually harassed by some Czech ticket inspectors which I am not a fan of. My friend was also speed groped in the train station while trying to get her ticket out. Some guy patted her butt and then made this weird snorting sound before running off. The Jewish quarter was very impressive, I wish I could have gone on the ghost tour, but that was the day of the harassment and I wasn't feeling it anymore. I also went to Kutná Hora to see ... read more

Rio used to advertise that they were the only city in the world that had sidewalks constructed, in patterns, of black and white stones. We learned this was not quite true the first time we visited Salvador, Bahia way back in 1970. Salvador is another Brazilian city that lies right on the coast some 750 miles north of Rio. We took a number of photos of the black and white stone sidewalks in Salvador at that time and Nancy used them in a photography class she took at Towson University. I expect there are a fair number of cities around the world that have this type of sidewalk and Prague is one of them. We like them, and thought that perhaps you would also. So here are some photos of Prague's black and white stone sidewalks. ... read more

After walking in the cold for several hours one of the small pleasures of life here is to go into a small restaurant or coffee bar here and have a cup of espresso or hot chocolate and a crepe or piece of cake. Today we did just that. After walking around the Little Quarter for about two hours we went into the small breakfast/coffee bar at The House At the Red Lion II to have a cup of hot chocolate and a piece of honey cake. The chocolate warmed our hands and the core of our bodies and the cake simply tasted very good. And, yes it had a decided honey taste. ... read more

Hello Team It's that time again - yes, we've gone and visited another country and we want you to know all about it! This time it's the highly recommended city of Prague in the Czech Republic. Saturday 4th March 2006 We had expected it to be cold, but it was bloody freezing! After throwing our gear in our moderately priced hotel (£10ea a night including breakfast - can't complain) we walked down Wenceslas Square, Prague's main boulevard, and through the middle of the city down to the river. Rach was able to sniff some markets out within the 1st half hour, but they were mainly selling crappy tourist shite. We made our way to the famous Charles Bridge which connects the old town with Mala Strana (the Castle) where we came across some cool jazz buskers. ... read more

A beautiful snow fell last night. For about two to three hours snow fell, as hard as we have seen here in the Czech Republic ... big fluffy flakes followed by tiny flakes ... a delight to children and to some adults as well. I won't mention that Nancy has been praying for more and more snow. So this morning we decided to strap on our Yaktrax and take another walk up the Sarka Valley. The Yaktraxs work very well on ice, but not so well in deep snow. The snow tends to pack on the trax and negate the grip of the tracks that work so well on ice. The ice on the trail had a three inch covering of snow this morning and that was fine. In fact, it made the trail less slippery ... read more

We have gotten very little walking in since we arrived back on January 20th and this morning we decided that "this has to change." So after lunch we walked to the trail that goes up the Sarka Valley, strapped on our Yaktraxs and headed up-stream walking over the several inches thick ice. And, "Yes, the Yaktraxs work." We did not slip once and if you don't slip you probably wil; not fall. Even in the hardest ice the traxs dug in, leaving little impressions in the ice as we walked. "Why were we so dumb that we did not use these before," Nancy mused as we walked. Not wanting to admit to being dumb I said nothing in reply. My blood pressure has been quite high and I have been so upset about it. This evening ... read more
