Up again early for the bus. We gave ourselves plenty of time to get to the pick-up point. We arrived in Cesky Krumlov at 11:30, what an amazing place! Hostel 99 was superb, right outside our room were was flowing water over rocks like a moat. Cesky Krumlov is this sweet little town with loads of character! It is surrounded by flowing water and has cobblestone streets. We spent our day roaming the streets exploring the wonderful surroundings with strawberry ice-creams in hand (not just any strawberry ice-creams but the woman put creamy vanilla ice-cream and fresh strawberries in a machine and voila deliciousness on a cone!). We climbed up to the castle for the great view and watched people taking canoes downs the rapids. For dinner we went to this cool motorbike museum/restaurant "Krumlovsky's Myn" ... read more

There are many sights to see in Cesky Krumlov, some very old and some not so old. Certainly these chairs are on the lighter side. June 29th, our departure date for home, is rushing toward us very quickly. It has become obvious that we will not complete the reports of our time here before we head home, that we will add more once we are at home. For instance I suddenly realized we did not give a report of the castle in Krakow, nor have we given any report of our hiking in the National Park at Hrensko, on the German border. We are going to be very busy from now until the 29th, so I am not sure how many new postings we will be able to make before we fly home. Stay tuned. ... read more

forgot to say the other day - but i cut my hair!! i got sick of having a slightly mullet style because it had grown too much so i decided to give myself a haricut. dowsn't look too bad - not too short or anything drastic. i have to put stuff in it to make it have the messy look - to disguise the mistakes!! i was going along fine until i started trying to do the layers - not too even there miss aliss! it's ok though - much better than before. now, here in cesky krumlov i've been up to - nothing much!! it's a very relaxing place and spent about 4 hours sitting by the river and going for a swim every now and then. actually, no i didn't swim - i only ... read more

only arrived here this morning from prague - about 3 hours on the bus. cesky is a very cute little town with winding cobblestone streets and pretty buildings (of course) but the best thing is that it's encircled (nearly) in a river. it's really fun, coz it's got rapids and the hostel has inner tubes that you can use for free!! haven't done it yet, but it's on the list for tomorrow. we spent the day walking next to the river trying to find out where they hire rafts - we thought it would be upstream but the czechs do things differently!! you hire them in town - downstream actually, then they drive you up, then you cruise back down!! we walked for about 2.5 hours looking for a place til we were told that it ... read more

Never say never. Last June when we left Cesky Krumlov and a few days later when we left Prague we said that we would love to visit these towns again, but that it probably would never happen. Little did we know, nor could we have guessed that seven months later we would be living in Prague for half a year and that we would have the opportunity to visit Cesky Krumlov again. Cesky Krumlov is a small Bohemian town in the southern part of the Czech Republic. It is practically unchanged from medieval days. This, at least for Nancy and I, makes it a fascinating town to visit. The buildings are absolutely ancient. Many are in good repair and many are being refurbished. UNESCO has designated Cesky Krumlov a World Heritage Site. This designation seems to ... read more

The Czechs are a funny lot. It is as if the person that they spoke to just before you really pissed them off and so they decide to bite off your head for asking simple questions like directions. What is really surprising is that they can be sweet as honey just afterwards. I find that piling on heavy sarcasm just adds to the culture clash, but it is great fun. (3rd Nov) I am staying at a hostel in the party end of Prague and it shows. Life couldnt get any different here to Iran . It has a great bar downstairs, I popped down for a quiet drink with my book last night as I hadn't yet met anyone. Didn't read a page. Everyone had a story of a very heavy sesh the night before. ... read more

This small town in the Czech republic is one of the best towns i've been too on the trip.  The town itself has a super chill atmosphere and the hostal we stayed at was part of the city walls.  We spent a day rafting to the next town..and then there was the free keg on wensday.  All in all a great place.... read more

On the train I met a dentist and we spoke in a common language, barely intelligible German. The town is quaint and charming but might be overrun with tourists by now. The beer from nearby Czeky Budejovice is some of the best in the world. The rafting trip on the lazy Vitava River was relaxing and picturesque.... read more
