The last few weeks have been flying by. I am not sure if it is because the year is coming to an end or if it's that everyone has had trips back home. Annie, Katie and Charles have all went home and came back. It's been weird not having the whole group around. Someone has always been missing for the last three weeks. Charles will be back tomorrow, but Leigh Anne will be in Roatan with her family next weekend and Annie will again be in the States. I have been thinking a lot about how much I have changed as a person since I have been here. This experience has truly opened my eyes in a way I never dreamed of. There is so much that I have learned about myself, as well as others ... read more

After a great weekend with the Mrs. I returned to the old routine. When I got to school on Monday I was greeted by one of the women who cleans my classroom at the end of the day. We have a few kitchen staff and they also open the rooms and clean up after the kids. Well her first words to me were, "Your room is full of bees." You can imagine what I thought when I heard that. I had images of nests being built and swarms of hornets flying in and around the books. I am known to tell some of the worst jokes at El Alba and the idea of bees in an English room made my day. "They must be spelling bees!" I said... classic. After a while we realized the bees ... read more

I have picked up two hobbies since I moved to Honduras. One is bike rides and the other is taking photos of roaming livestock while on my bike rides. I'll admit that the bike ride itself isn't a new hobby. I have been riding a bike since I was a kid, but a Honduran bike ride is a whole new experience. You see and learn a lot, sometimes things you like and sometimes things you don't. The livestock, for example, is something I really like. It always seems like they are going to give me a thrash or two for passing by with my camera in their face, but they never do... well, so far. They add a little spice to my bullion cube (pun intended) of cycling adventure. I also keep track of the colors. ... read more

Two weeks ago, Leigh Ann, Katie and I, took this amazing trip to Sambo Creek and Cayos Cachinos. I have been wanting to write about everything that happened there. But, here I am am two weeks later and still no blog about my incredible three weekend where I experienced so many new and amazing things. Instead, I am here in Comayagua blogging about probably what is meaningless to most people, except myself. I am trying not to let the fact that school is almost over, interfere with my day to day life right now. But, it's nearly impossible. Every time I turn around people are talking about the end of the year and their plans. I have said it before and I will say it again, I adore these people. I have come to know and ... read more

The last two weeks have been filled with many ups and downs. Luckily though, there have been more ups than downs. It is becoming harder to deny the fact that things are coming to an end. I know that the friends that I have come to love here, will be leaving in a matter or weeks. I will be leaving in July to spend some much needed time with my friends and family. Although I am anxiously awaiting the end of school, I am still trying to slow time all at once. Things have been good here though. Leigh Anne, Katie and I decided to do something different last week instead of the usual routine. We opted to have a BBQ. It was a lot of fun actually. It was nice having lots of people over ... read more

Finally rainy season is returning. I was beginning to think I would literally melt the next time I stepped outside. The weather here isn't kind to a Western New Yorker, I think I might have mentioned that a few times already... but, it is finally starting to cool off a bit. Well... it is getting less hot, we still have a long way to go until it can "cool off." I consider myself to be a cold weather snob and I have very high standards when it comes to a wind chill. I never thought it was true, but there are times when the gusts of wind can make you feel hotter. The first time I felt a hot gust of wind, on an already spicy day, I thought it was the output of an AC ... read more

It is 2 in the morning and I can't get back to sleep, so here I am, writing. My last entry, I was quite obviously freaked out about everything that has been going on here. I think it was a combination of everything really. All of the bad things just seemed to be piling up and weighing in my mind. But, the last week has been much better. I am really looking forward to next week! We have a three day weekend because of Labour Day and I picked the spot we are going to. I chose Sambo Creek, a Garifuna Village just outside of La Cebia. They have Caribbean food, hot springs and the Ocean. Not to mention the part that I am totally excited about, the zip line. I cannot wait to be hanging ... read more

My eleven days off were truly amazing, as well as necessary. The last two weeks before vacation were a struggle for me. My students were giving me pretty hard time and I was just very burnt out, which is never a good mix. Pretty much everyone left for exotic locals, except for me of course. It was weird being around the house without Katie, Leigh Anne or Annie. Considering we spend all of our time together, it was a strange break from them. I didn't sit around and mope or anything like that, not to worry. I spent my time very wisely. I lounged, relaxed, vegged. Any and all words for relax, is exactly what I did. I spent quite a bit of time with Doniel. In fact, everyday but one. Pretty impressive for someone like ... read more

Easter week is the holiest time of year for many Catholics. Feeling very pious and loaded down with rum (beacause someone told us that booze was prohibited on Good Friday), we descended on Comayagua for the festivities. This beautiful colonial town is the best place in Honduras to witness the religious celebrations. The local people are very proud of their traditions and spend months planning detailed alfombras; sawdust carpets. The work begins on the eve of Good Friday and people work throughout the night to create incredible, coloured displays. By 9.00am the sun is beating down and the well-dressed crowds are out in force admiring the artwork. Very considerately, the groups have provided stepladders for us tourists to climb and get a good snap-shot. By 10.30am the most sombre Via de la Crucis procession has begun ... read more

It has been almost two weeks since my last blog. Not that I haven't had a ton to write about, no, that wasn't the case at all. Our internet hasn't been working in almost two weeks and I have never been so frustrated. I am beginning to realize that writing these blogs have made things easier to cope with things around here. I can write and laugh about things that are going on and know that my family and friends back home are thinking of me and laughing at my stupidity back home. Without the internet, without writing, things have been a little bit more difficult. As if there is too much to say but nobody to say it to. I could have the same conversation with my friends here, but seeing as how they also ... read more
