The last entry, I was feeling quite down obviously. It only lasted a day or two and I am feeling much better now. Which is why I titled this one the way I did. I just wanted to give the fam back home a little jolt. Gotcha! Of course, I know I'm always going to have those days where all I want is to see everyone back home. For right now though, I am definitely in better spirits. Not just because of all the love everyone sent my way form back home, which was amazing by the way, thanks. I solved my homesickness the way any real Canadian female should. I got some retail therapy in. I went to the mall and spent more money in one hour than I have the entire two months that ... read more

This past week flew by so fast, I felt like I couldn't catch up. It is now Monday and I haven't written here in a whole week, I believe. Last week was awesome! Honduras played their first game and so of course I went out. On a school night. Never a good idea. We all went out to Sangria's and they had tables and even bleachers set up with a big screen t.v. We ordered beer and nachos and basically, we watched Honduras lose 2-0. It was a completely different experience watching a soccer game here instead of back home. Everybody was at the bar and they were cheering and booing and I felt anxious the whole time. It was a good game. The Honduran goalie made quite a few good saves, but just not enough. ... read more

Today was kind of a rough day for me. Actually, I was trying to be optimistic yesterday, but to no avail today. The last two days in general have been kind of rough on me. I have been here almost six weeks and although things are going great, today was just one of those days. One of those days when all you can think about is your family and friends. I miss everyone back home. I miss seeing their face and laughing with them and just being completely free. Although of course I am free here, it will never be the same way as when you are with your family. The kids have given me a run for my money the last two days and I am not sure if that is adding to the problem ... read more

The past few weeks I have simply been enjoying IT. My classes are going well and when they don't go so well, the stress doesn't follow me home. Other than the hot weather everything is going really great. Karina and I are still chugging away at our wedding plans and she has been on the ball. Speaking of chugging, I have really gotten into milk. It's pretty awesome. Karina organized and ordered all the invites and I was able to get some musicians interested in playing at the reception. I'm pretty excited about the whole thing, it will be interesting. My family will be mixing with Karina's for the first time in the history of the universe. The two families are similar in so many ways, it will be fun to see how the languages come ... read more

Well it's official. I have been here over a month. I still can't believe how quickly time is flying by. It surprises me that in a small town with a slow pace, that things can move this quickly. I am already on my fifth week of teaching at the school and I still love it. This has been a month of changes for me in many ways. I don't think I can remember a time when I have grown this much as a person in such a short period of time. I feel that I am already a different person than I was when I arrived here. I have learned not to take things for granted and to truly be happy for what I have back home. My family, friends, endless potential and most importantly sometimes...hot ... read more

So far, I am having an awesome week. One of the best weeks since I arrived here. School has been great all week and the kids have been amazing also. Although, it is crazy right now because we are doing half partials, in other words getting our half term report cards ready for Friday. So everyone is busy gathering grades and they are quite busily going at their calculators these days, including me. I was rather nervous because I was wondering what the kids grades would look like compared to their last term and actually I am quite impressed. I know it's hard when your teacher leaves midway through the year and then you get a new teacher with a new way of doing of things. But luckily the students grades have gone up. Which makes ... read more

This weekend flew by so fast! It was kind of a whirlwind actually. The only notable thing that happened on Friday at school was that I held a birthday party for Donovan. It was a ton of fun and the kids loved it. I checked the birthday list to see how many were left before I decided to do anything for his. Luckily, I have missed many of the birthdays and there are only four or five until the end of the year, so I wont be buying a 25 cakes. Donovan absolutely loved his little party, cake and games. He hopefully liked my gift. I got him some Mickey Mouse pencils, sharpener and eraser. I thought it was a good idea since he is always asking me for a pencil. But sure enough, come this ... read more

There's only one thing more awkward than leaving a message on an answerphone. Leaving the message in Spanish, asking to meet a lady who has no idea who I am, whilst being watched by three (greatly amused) staff of the Hotel Boston. Maybe because of the entertainment value or out of sympathy, they refused to charge us for the call. I was trying to contact Zoila - to cut a long story short, a friend of a mum of a friend back home. We had her name, a phone number, plus some photos and a small gift from Ireland, carried through five other counties before reaching Honduras. There was little more we could do except explore Tegucigalpa and hope not only that it was a current phone number but that she would return our call before ... read more

Today started off just like every other day. I woke up at the early morning hour of 4 am and got ready for school. That may have been my first mistake. Actually, I believe getting out of bed was my first mistake and then leaving my house to go to school was my second. Thursday is a rough day for me. I teach 7 40 minute periods, most of which are back to back. I am much better when I teach a period and then have a period off. I will even settle for two classes back to back, but when there are four in a row...I tend to feel a little like jumping out of my classroom window. That is, if I wasn't on the first floor. My students had a reading test first thing ... read more

The first thing I asked myself, when I walked into school this morning, was "Why does David have a gun?" My second question was "Why do Josue, Cris, Kevin and Ramon have guns too?" It turns out that this week we are celebrating El Alba's 24th anniversary. So it only makes sense that the students should bring guns to school. I must say that, after I made the connection, I felt a little embarrassed. I mean, why shouldn't students be allowed to bring guns to school? It made me think back on my first big date with Karina, a year after we met... perhaps I should have brought my nine. Or maybe just a boot knife would have sufficed, I don't know because this custom is all new to me. I am from a crazy backwards ... read more
