Costa Rica Highlights. While hurricane Katrina made Louisiana's city and state officials show their true colors, I was blissfully unaware, spending my days exploring Costa. ... read more

Hola agian....not really in San Isidro but its the closest place...when I go to add an entry it asks me to nominate the place and its not always there!...so we're actually at Domenical on the Atlantic coast...yes, another famous surfing spot!...quite a few surfistas around, the rest of the place is fairly westernised, again the ex-pats run the businesses, and here the places are really strung out .....halfway between the main road and the beach, a bit odd, its all still a few hundred metres from the beach...nowhere has beach views!...except for some places way up on the hill...maybe a conservation thing...about everywhere in CR is a park of sorts..ecotourism has been the big earner here and responsible for a lot of CR's income....and all the tracks off the main road are really badly potholed and ... read more

Deaner, if you could watch me here in Costa Rica you´d be enjoying yourself thoroughly because I have to sit still and talk and sit around and wait for what seems like hours after every meal. For those of you who know my eating habits, its usual consuming a monstrous plate of food as quickly as possible and then immediately getting up from the table regardless of whether or not anyone else is finished and leave. However, here in costa rica, i´ve had to master the art of patience and conversing with my fellow eaters in an attempt to be polite and social. I´m actually getting much better at it, and it might carry over to school, then again it probably won´t, but its been a good test to my will. Going shopping in San Jose ... read more

Last night around 8:30 pm, i started walking with my host family, and i kept walking and walking and walking, and 5 hours, 23 kilometers, and an entirely different province I was in Cartago, violating one of my most ethical values. I was in a church praying after chasing the virgin mary, or chasing the faith as they sort of call it. Even though, I didn´t see the point in walking 23 kilometers, it was extremely impressive. Imagine a quarter of the US. Population converging on washington D.C. over the course of 2 days and walking to annapolis. Thats pretty much the same affect, when 1.5 million costa ricans converged on the capital and walked to cartago. There were literally hundreds of thousands of people just spewing from the streets to Cartago, I´d never seen anything ... read more

O ... read more

Dropped off my friends and met my family today at the airport in San Jose. The last few days at the station were fun, I caught a caiman!!! Casey and John were a big help, thanks a bunch to the both of them for their help in this. I even got to conduct a 6-day predatory study. It isn't the most detailed work in the world, but at least I got data that I can tinker with. My main study ended with 106 observations and about 33 (I think) morphological measurements. Good enough, I hope, especially since this may very well be my only field season (unless some magical thing happens and I get money for like a winter trip or something...). Right now we're heading to the Fiesta Resort, near Jaco, Costa Rica on ... read more

So Marco´s scored a date with the 24 year old Costa Rican Chica tuesday night and the first thing he said to me yesterday morning was. Muchas Besos.. Alot of kisses!!!!!!!! And he said he was in a bar, with other people sitting at the table. That had to be so awkward, like when you were younger and watching a movie with the rents and all of a sudden harrison ford and some broad were getting it on. Well, I almost lost it there, muy comico. But thats not even the best part, about 30 minutes later, Marcos lets it leak that his tica has 2 kids, an 8 year old and god knows how old the other one is. That means she was pregnant at 15, ala sarah gellet. But thats not even the best ... read more

Elaine and I spent the night at the largest hostel in San Jose. It claims there is always room. Well, seems it was full last night, luckily after we arrived. The guide book says it has a glorified college dorm atmosphere. It does complete with rowdy, drunk Chilieans who talked and laughed by the pool under early in the morning. Too bad my room had a window overlooking the pool. It was loud! Then, about 4:00 one of the 6 other people in the room left. This caused another girl to constantly sigh and turn. It wasn't worth sleeping anymore so at 5:30 I'm writing this message. We are off to Bocas del Toro Panama today. The bus leaves at 6:30. ... read more
