i made it back to the states safely without incident. My last weekend was fanatastic. I caught 5 monster sailfish with some crazy guy from British Columbia, Canada. It was a wild time. I loved Costa Rica. I'm going back, I don't know when, but someday I will! Take care. ... read more

This may be my last entry ever in Costa Rica. I probably won´t write tomorrow as I´m catching a bus around 11 to manuel antonio for my fishing expedition. I´m extremely stoked, but a little nervous going it alone. I wish my best friend Wesley Hermoyk or my dad could be here to experience this with me. Maybe someday they´ll come down here with me for some fishing. I´m sad to see my time here in costa rica end. Its been awesome. I´m going to miss everything about it, especially my family here. I recommend this trip or a trip to any other country where they speak a foreign language to anyone who is interested in partaking in a humbling experience, learning a new culture and exploring your limitations while absorbing a wealth of information. I´ll ... read more

Good morning all. 6 days until i´m back in the states on August 15th. The power just went out here while i was finishing up my blog, so i lost it all, and now i´m just gonna summarize what i had written before. Friday night went to a bar called "VYRUS" with my family and some friends. One guy´s name was wally. Wally made me do shots of whiskey with him. After bar, went to wally´s pad and sang spanish kareoke, it was awkward. Didn´t get to bed until 2 am. Got up at 4 am to go to limon. Limon was full of swedes and german travelers for the weekend. its like a whole different country. they don´t speak english there. Its some combination of spanish/french/and english called patwau?... Lots of ex-patriots as well, who ... read more

I made the tragic mistake in monopoly, Costa Rican style yesterday, in trading properties. Jeff recieved from me the key piece in completeling a monopoly right before the jail. I only received 1 piece and cash. I though I had played my cards right becasue he wouldn´t have money to build houses and I was soon on my way to owning that dangerous corner of the board where Ny ave, park place, and kentucky ave all meet.. However, Jeff started mortgaging land in order to build houses and of course everybody started landing on his shit and I got my ass handed to me. i hate losing in monopoly. Now for Jeremy´s slew of questions: the one that caught my attention first; the toilets here in Costa Rica are definitely not American made, and are not ... read more

This blog is just going to be a lot of hilarious random junk that i haven´t written about because not a whole lot is new. So this one is going to be all over the place. First, to answer a few questions that i haven´t yet answered. The buses and Costa Rica. Taking the buses in CR is a smoregous board of Russian Roullete. You never know what you´re going to get, and when you get it, you might not be to pleased. I´ll tell you that i´ve ridden on some really nice mercedes benz buses all plush and very extravagant, and then i´ll tell you that i´ve ridden on some 1970´s Chenango Valley bluebird school buses painted a tantalizing baby blue. One thing about the buses; they have these infrared lights that count the amount ... read more

Deaner, if you could watch me here in Costa Rica you´d be enjoying yourself thoroughly because I have to sit still and talk and sit around and wait for what seems like hours after every meal. For those of you who know my eating habits, its usual consuming a monstrous plate of food as quickly as possible and then immediately getting up from the table regardless of whether or not anyone else is finished and leave. However, here in costa rica, i´ve had to master the art of patience and conversing with my fellow eaters in an attempt to be polite and social. I´m actually getting much better at it, and it might carry over to school, then again it probably won´t, but its been a good test to my will. Going shopping in San Jose ... read more

Last night around 8:30 pm, i started walking with my host family, and i kept walking and walking and walking, and 5 hours, 23 kilometers, and an entirely different province I was in Cartago, violating one of my most ethical values. I was in a church praying after chasing the virgin mary, or chasing the faith as they sort of call it. Even though, I didn´t see the point in walking 23 kilometers, it was extremely impressive. Imagine a quarter of the US. Population converging on washington D.C. over the course of 2 days and walking to annapolis. Thats pretty much the same affect, when 1.5 million costa ricans converged on the capital and walked to cartago. There were literally hundreds of thousands of people just spewing from the streets to Cartago, I´d never seen anything ... read more

Since, I didn´t post anything since thursday I´ll fill you in from there with lots of goodies. Thursday night Kate, Jeff, Marcos, Marcos´s host brother, and I went to some shady pool hall where there was a man with only 1 arm giving Kate the rape stare. Costa Rican men, especially those with missing body parts or teeth are unbelievably rude and obnoxious to american women. They take cat alling and lude farneti comments to new heights. however, if you so much as talk to a tica you get that same rape stare yet it has a whole new affect. Friday morning, I had my first exam at 10 am. It had been originally scheduled for 3 pm but we talked the teachers, mainly jorge, the sweetest teacher on earth,(possibly greater than the great john reid ... read more
