Manuel Antonio Travel Blogs

Background: Costa Rica is a Central American success story: since the late 19th century, only two brief periods of violence have marred its democratic development. Although still a largely agricultural country, it has expanded its economy to include strong technology and tourism sectors. The standard of living is relatively high. Land ownership is widespread.

We've missed a few days, so we need to fill you all in. Internet is intermitant so please forgive us if we have to lie in the sun and TAN rather than fill your sad asses in on our travel escapades. After failing to enter the interenet site we traveled the rocks to OUR beach. You have to go early and be very careful as you crawl over the slippery, mounding spikey rock formations to the hidden beach in Manual Antonio. We met our new friends Gorgio and Bertrand from Vancouver BC. Naked and lying in the sun JIll found it [View Full Entry]

We woke to roosters, howling white face monkeys...and, the sweet sound of construction next door...all at the bewitching hour of 6am. We got up early as we had to eat and catch the tico bus to Manual Antonio Natural Park...as we wanted to get there early and hike the trails to experience the park at its liviest. We "hired" a guide for a private tour...just the 4 of us...nick named "skinny" or "flacko"....I(jill typing now) kept making a folding motion with my hands as if i were going to fold flako up and stick him in my pocket to take him [View Full Entry]

Came back to the gift shop to finish our entries for you guys. Hope you like them....they cost 1000 colones for every half hour! Ok, so back to Tues nite and dinner. So we ate at this place...a local establishment..."Angles", which was situated on the main drag here in town....and in the back yard were the nino's playing, and with the eldest in the kitchen cooking(she was all of 14). Presumably the father was our waiter who spoke VERY little english....THANK GOD for peter! He is truly amazing with his language skills. We were one of 3 tables being served...the first [View Full Entry]

Well we've finally pack and arrived. Muchos stories of all the people we have met on the beach. Jill has never seen so much male anotomy before on the nude beach. Learing is good. \ We arrived Saturday after a 14 hour travel day. the flight down was easy and yes everything fit in the overhead compartment. Sensa Air seated 14 people and our girl jill did just fine with her eyes closed and not paying any attetion to the blinding clouds the the pilots who seemed more intent on doing the log work than actually flying the friggin' tin can [View Full Entry]

Manuel Antonio is a small national park on the pacific coast of Costa Rica. Its slogan (well the one we were given by our hotel) is "still more monkeys than people" - which was quite true (although I must admit that there were times when it was hard to tell the difference)..... The sack or in espanol "el saco" had a very long weekend as usual. We got things started on friday night at a bar in desamporados called Manuellos. A lot of funny things happened here including the grandest marcos story of all. Mark, AKA "Marcos Suave" amongst the costa rican women, actually successfully picked up and got a 24 year old damn good looking ticaīs number. I was duely impressed and you would have been too as the whole process was very comical to the point where i think i wet myself. On the way to the bar marcos was asking [View Full Entry]

hmmm...where were we? Manuel Antonio was like diving into Animal Planet for a day...if you canīt be bothered checking it out on the net, itīs a peninsula with a few of the nicest beaches either of us has seen and all the jungle you could ask for...if it hadnīt been for the entry fee we would have stayed a week! Cheapskates that we are, we packed it all into one day, hiking round the whole park in about 6 hours..we bumped into white-faced monkeys, crabs, iguanas, hummingbirds and a whole family of sloths taking a beachside siesta in a tree. We [View Full Entry]

Thank God Iīve had Andres here my first week. I practice my spanish on him while we watch dubbed reruns of the OC and he practices the little english he knows on me. And he doesnīt seem to mind that I should like Ivan Drago from Rocky 4 when I talk. Last night I had my best conversation yet. Vilma, Andres and I talked for almost 2 hours straight about pretty much everything, it was excellent. Classes are good, but we havenīt been talking as much as Iīve wanted to in them. Itīs been mostly us listening to the professor, which [View Full Entry]

Buenas friends! Sitting in a little hippie-bakpackers-chick town called Quepos, by the Paciffic after some great days in Alajuela in Hotel Martino. Tamela, Saraīs old immigrant-class pal, upgraded us from our little cardboard box in a bad neigbourhood, to a suite at her boyfriendīs five star resort. We didnīt mind one bit! Tamela even saved San Joséīs reputation by giving us the by night tour of the best spots in town. Long live Adriano and Tamela!! Aha, and check her brand-new website at tamela.info and put in an order for that upcoming disc, "Mezcla"!! Craving some wildlife adventure [View Full Entry]
