Hey guys, We just got down the mountain from a trek up to the tribal villages. It was rather over-rated and not really authentic, cause the village that we stayed in had tv. We ended up hiking up 1300 m in 3.5 hours, so we had much-deserved Thai massages upon our descent. We did get to ride elephants, which was super cool. Ours was totally lazy and just wanted to eat bamboo. When we walked it was so slow motion that we just sat back and enjoyed the ride. We also got to raft down a river on these bamboo rafts tied together with bike innertubes. It was a good time and Denny didn't get any nasty rashed when he fell in. So we're taking the night train back down to Bangkok and then heading to ... read more

We got into Chiang Mai this morning, after an uneventful night train from Bangkok. We're heading out on a trek into the mountains tomorrow morning to do an elephant ride, bambo rafting, lunch with the long-neck ladies (who wear the rings around their necks), swimming in a waterfall and more adventures. Exciting and scary at the same time, cause we'll be sleeping in little huts with probably some BIG bugs. So our time in Bangkok was pretty sweet. We hooked up with one of the touts who get a comission from shops if he brings tourists there. Well we made a pretty good arrangement... he can drive us all around the city, to all of the best sights, and we'll visit a few shops for him. He even told us exactly how long we had to ... read more

So we've moved to the other side of the peninsula into Krabi province. We're staying on another great beach called Ao nang and took one of the longtail boats to Railay beach. The ride out was relaxed and funny when a small spray of water would get someone in the face, but the way home was like the log ride at Disney land. We were completely soaked, but still in good sprirts, cause it was only 20 mins. We had quite the ride. Our day at Railay was a little cloudy, but I still managed to get a slight burn. Serves me right for thinking that I had a 'great base'. We explored and had massages on the beach. I love this place! This morning we went on a hike out of our little bay. We ... read more

Wow, what a great day. We had a speed boat tour of the 2 ko Phi Phi islands that were devasted by the Tsunami. It's beautiful and the reconstruction looks pretty nice. In one of the shops that we stopped in, they had a line on the wall of how high the water was, in was above Denny's head. This shop was like a block from the water. So wew toured and fed monkey and snorkeled in a marine sanctuary and on reef comparible to Great Barrier (well, smaller, but more stunning), we beached and swam and explored Maya Bay ("The Beach" and the James Bond beach). We had an interesting blend of Thai, Western and sausages for lunch, but super tasty. The thai food is soooooooo good and the people are so friendly (maybe it's ... read more

All that I can say is aaaahhhh...... After navigating around Aussie on the wrong side, in our little van, Thailand is a piece of paradise and freedom. We got off the plane, lead to a van, dropped at the hotel and ahhhhh..... We woke up in a delightful king-sized bed to a sunny morning in monsoon season. We were a little hesitant, but I guess that this is off-season, so we are kings here. We had an interesting breaky of eggs and rice and stir fry and pineapple and then headed down to the tailor. I got measured for my suits and them we hit the beach. I was a little concerned that they wouldn't be ready for when we left, but he said that if we were in a rush, he would have them done ... read more

After a couple of weeks on the road, we had to turn in our keys and return our Wicked Camper... tear.... bye bye Eddie 2. After our beautious sailing trip through the Whitsundays and Great barrier, we got back in our little van and trekked back down the coast. We made stops in some great places, and got some great winter tans along the way. So on our way back, we stopped at a cute beach town called 1770 (not a heritage site, but a great place to chillax on the beach), Hervey Bay & Fraser Island (a sand island, where we took a 4x4 greyhound along the beach and in the rain forest at 100 km/ hr), Noosa Head (big money, great surfing), the Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's place, where you can pat koalas and ... read more

Wowsers, has a lot been going on since I last tapped on a keyboard. So we boarded the "Pacific Star" from Airlie beach and hit the high seas. We visited the most gorgeous white sand beach, aplty named 'Whitehaven' before hitting some great snorkel beaches and doing our first dive ever. Now I have never seen coral or crazy fish before, so this few minutes underwater blew me away... and then we hit the reef. We sailed out on our little catamaran to 'Bait reef' to a place called the stepping stones. I woke up on my bday morning to a stunning sunrise and tossed on my suit. We chilled for a bit, watching the whales cruise past, then we went for another dive. This one was way cooler and longer and nealy blew me out ... read more

Wowie! We just drove almost 2000kms in our Mitsubishi camper van (it's a dream with a picture of Iron Maiden on the side and on the back it talks all about beer! How did they know?) Anyways, the highways here are 2 lanes, ranging from 80-110 km/ hr. It is illegal here to swerve for animals, so there are dead kangooroos, koalas and other marsupias all over the place. Our van is sweet though. We've made stops in Port McQuarrie, Byron Bay and McKay so far. The first two are stunning (google them!) We have now arrived in Airlie beach and it's a little overcast, but nice. We're heading out on a sailing trip through the Whitsundays and outer reef tomorrow for 3 days. It's gonna sweet! I'll be thinking of you all on my bday, ... read more

Wow, am I ever pooped! Since it's the middle of winter in Sydney and 25 C is quite comfortable for us Canadians to strip down, we decided to go surfing. When we went to go and rent the boards, the guy was too stubborn to let us go without wetsuits, so we donned our protective neoprene and hit the surf. Now as beginners, you only get these massive, foam, banana boards. Inititally, I was a little embarassed hauling this monstrosity to the beach, but once out there on the swells, it all made sense. We attemped to ride for about 2 hrs, successfully standing a handful of times, and getting sand in more awkward places than beach vball. We had a blast nonetheless, kickin ass on the poor suckers in the surfing lesson next to us. ... read more

Wow, what a brilliant start to our trip. If you're ever doing the trek over to Aus, NZ or Polynesia, stopping for a small hiatus in Hawaii is the way to do it! Our hotel was right across the street from Wakiki, but we decided to rent a car to maximize our time. We had stunning weather the whole time, then it rained so we hit the road to Sydney. Now I know that a lot of you have been to Hawaii, but all that I can say is that everywhere (except the crowded freeways) are breathtaking. Day 1: Coconut syrop, fresh pineapple, Pearl Harbour (blah... probably would have been a stunning spot, had the Yanks not parked there), surfer's beach, Diamond head, nap, sushi and a 6 pack of Moosehead for 5 bucks! Day 2: ... read more
