Slept in. Awake at 10am. Headed in to the city again and to the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb. We are on the 12.05 climb. It takes three hours but that isn’t all climbing. Firstly you sign an information sheet for them and have a breath test. Then you are given the most unflattering gray boiler suit. We had too get caps and hankies and everything is attached by clips so you can’t drop them. Apparently it can cause damage to cars! There were 12 people in our group we walked along the underside of the bridge. The mesh can be seen through and it is a long way to the ground. Climbed the ladders and you come up between the traffic. It is a weird experience. After that bit it is so much easier on the ... read more

Up with the alarm at 8.30. Head pounds with the sound of a million jackhammers. I am never drinking again. (Ha, ha, ha.) Had breakfast in the restaurant then went to Sydney. Got off the train at Martin Place. Let me tell you about the trains; they are two story and they would fit so well on the South Eastern Trains line to Kent. All the times we got on them, even at peak times we always got a seat. Walked down to Circular Quay. Went to the Opera House. Richie did the tour and I went to the local stalls. Bought myself a ring. Walked back along Circular Quay to The Rocks area. Found a market stall under the bridge and had a look around. Walked under the bridge and looked at the bolts that ... read more

Got up at 9ish. Caught the train and bus to Bondi Beach. Stopped at Westfield Shopping Centre to get towels and sun cream. Got to the beach about 11am and it was already 30oC and we could feel it. Swam and sunned watching the beautiful people passing by. The only down side was the wind was quite strong and sand get everywhere. (Was still finding it in the fat rolls in the evening!!) About 12.30 had to leave the beach because I was cooking, even with the suncream on at Factor 30+. You so easily forget the intensity of the sun. Went to the beachside café and had ham and cheese croissant. Eat that and then sat on the lawns above the beach. Once again got too hot and had to leave. Realised we didn’t have ... read more

Slept through alarm. Awake at 8.15. Late, argh. Throw arms in air and run around like a Muppet. Shower and dress. Drove up through Perth and the Tunnel. Went to old house in Cloverdale to show Richie. Shopping, it’s so cheap, at Belmont Forum. Richie got thongs and I got some t-shirts. Had lunch in the food hall. Went past my old schools and I don’t recognise them. Went up to Guildford and the Old Court House. Had a look around. Got dropped off at the airport. Checked in and went through security. Richie got quizzed by the security but all ok. Had a beer in the airport and then boarded plane. Sat on the right side of the plane and saw the city as we took off. Good flight had dinner just after takeoff. Once ... read more

Woken at 1am by the sound of an express train and a jack hammer. Then realised Richie was snoring!! Slept in the family room on the floor. Woke at 8am. Had a cup of tea with Mum. Watched morning television. Woke Richie at 9am. He was sound asleep and I think he would have slept until 12 with no problems. Decided to get the 9.52 bus into Fremantle. Set up Mum’s computer and left to go to the bus stop. Bus came before we got to the stop so came back home. Mum wanted to go to Social Security so she drove us to Spearwood and we got the 136 bus in to Freo. When we were getting off the bus Richie tripped and twisted his ankle. We were outside the hospital and he decided ... read more

Aware at 4am. Damn jetlag!! Got up and made tea for Richie and myself. Mum came out about 4.30ish. Drank tea, looked around the house and listened to the morning song of the local birds. I made breakfast. Set up mum’s new DVD player and we watched a few episodes of ‘Allo ‘Allo. Had showers and got dressed. Mum let me drive to Rockingham to see were I’d grown up. It has changed quite a bit. Went to Val and Ernie’s place for a beer and a chat. They live opposite the old house so got to see it from the outside. Went to Rockingham Beach for fish and chips. Really nice. Cooked fresh when ordered. Drove down to Mandurah and watched the water go by on the estuary. Mum wanted to do some veggie shopping ... read more

We landed at Singapore on time. Went and had a shower then to the sunflower deck. It was very hot and humid there. After sitting in the heat we decided we needed a beer. Managed to justify the beer at 8.30 am, by saying it is 12.30 am in London and we are thirsty! At 9.00am headed to the gate. Looked at the telly and our gate was closing. Fortunately we didn’t have far to go. Straight through security and on to the plane. We were down the back of the plane. The man sitting next to us moved so we had three seats to ourselves. That was very good news because my in-flight entertainment unit didn’t work properly. The plane took off. After a while I congratulated and welcomed Richie to the Southern Hemisphere. ... read more

I didn't get to sleep until 3.30ish. Argh! Alarm at 5am. Got up, had a cup of tea and then shower. Checked out and caught the Hoppa Bus at 6.03. Bus picked up at two other hotels and then to the airport. Arrived 6.30ish and went straight to the check in desk, only to be waiting until 7am. We were fifth in the queue. We checked in. Good nights, the massive “balls-up” wasn’t as massive as I thought. We were sitting together from London to Singapore, but Singapore to Perth we were in totally different areas. We managed to get Richie on the left of the plane from Singapore to Perth so he could see the vast redness of Australia. Everything turned out well in the end. Looked around the duty free section and I decided ... read more

Woke up at 9am after a night out in Halfway to Heaven with Peter, Chris, Richie, Brian, Ines, David, Ayla, Ray, Evan and Michael. Started to pack case. Peter made breakfast while I rang Singapore Airlines to see what could be done about buggering up the check-in on the internet. Richie's got two seats and I have nothing!! Can't do anything so will need to get to airport early to sort it out. Finished packing and Peter drove us to North Greenwich. We caught the tube to Green Park and then the Piccadilly Line to Hounslow West. Since we are staying in the Sheraton hotel I thought, rather stupidly, to get the 81 bus from Hounslow West. WRONG. The bus runs every half an hour and we just missed the 2.30 one. We walked to the ... read more
