Back in Delhi we were met by Samarth. We made the most of our time left partying, meeting our Indian friends and drinking chai. As always everyone made us feel very welcome. One night we went to Prishant's house where we met his mum and dad and they gave us all a gift which was really sweet of them. On the 22nd it was a very special festival in the Indian calendar, Holi. It is a festival of colour and we were invited to Samarth's house to spend it with his family and friends. Before we left for the morning the lady who we stayed with cooked us a special breakfast and greeted us by placing paint of various colours on our face - we did the same back. On our way to Samarth's we were ... read more

Whilst waiting for our bus to Hampi we met loads of other backpackers on the South India trail. One was them was a crazy couple. They left us with their bags and went off for dinner, got drunk and staggered back to us half hour after the bus was meant to turn up, they were very lucky the bus was late! On the bus they continued drinking and making a scene but at least they livened up the journey. We arrived in Hampi at 11am to mayhem, we were surrounded my tuk tuk drivers and they even started to climb the side of the bus before we stepped off. After lots of confusion we settled for a tuk tuk driver named Rameesh. He took us to a guesthouse which was rather unusual as we had rocks ... read more

We left Bikaner at 4am for a local bus to Agra. It took 14 hours with barely a stop. When we got off to go a toilet the bus started to leave and we had to jump back on a moving bus making it just in time. When we arrived in Agra we met Moushmi and was introduced to her whole family. We were then introduced to Poona and her family who we were staying with for the week. The first couple of days in Agra we visited the sites with Moushmi. We visited Agra Fort which had beautiful views of Taj Mahal and Akbars Mauosleum at Sikandra. We went shopping with Moushmi for clothes and bangles and the shoe shops were crazy as they would throw shoes from the ceiling. We visited the local temple ... read more

We arrived in Jaipur late that evening. We took an auto rickshaw to our hotel and suprisingly managed to fit all 3 of us in plus our luggage!! We were holding on trying not to fall out. The following day we went for a walking tour around the Old City (Pink) and see some great city views from the roof top. It was crazy, there was so much noise and so much traffic, bikes, cars and even cows! The following day we hired an auto rickshaw to take us to all the local sights. We visited Hawal Mahal, City Palace, Royal Gaitor and Amber Fort. Amber Fort was amazing, we walked to the top where we could see the views of the city. The fort was huge it had lots of character, in one part of ... read more

February 2nd 2008

We arrived in Delhi the early hours of the morning and as soon as we stepped off the plane we noticed the climate change and it was freezing!!! Samarth picked us up from the airport and took us to our guesthouse in Janpath / Connaught Place. We checked in and went straight to bed making our arrangements for the day ahead. Samarth picked us up at midday with his friend Vicky and we went for lunch at a street restaurant. We was then taken to see some of Delhi sights including India Gate and Rashrapati Bhavan. They were both beautiful. India Gate is a memerial which pays tribute to around 9000 Indian soldiers who died in World War 1. Samarth then took us to meet his mum Santosh who greeted us with a big smile, hug ... read more

We were sad to leave Thailand but excited to move on to Malaysia. As we entered Malaysia we noticed the difference straight away, everything appeared 'normal' but it had a chracter all of its own. We headed straight for Penang Island and from Georgetown took the local bus to Teluk Bahang. Straight away we noticed how friendly everyone was. On the bus people offered theirs seats to us and helped us with all our luggage. The bus driver even drove us to another bus to take us back the way we came when we missed out stop!! We stayed in a guesthouse which was a room on the side of a family home. As we entered the whole family gathered into our room from the kids to the grandparents. They seemed so excited that we were ... read more

After a long bus ride we finally arrived at the port to catch the boat over to Koh Tao Island. It was the worst boat journey we have ever been on, the three of us were all violently sick for 3 hours and once we had arrived because we were so ill and disorientated we were taken advantage of by one of the taxi drivers and ripped off. After finally feeling better we went to have a look around the Island. Koh Tao is a very beautiful place and is excellent for scuba diving. One night we went to the Lotus bar on the beach where there was a fire show and we partied. We then left the next day for Koh Phagnan and yet again we all were sick by the time we arrived. Once ... read more

We left the border crossing for Chiang Mai with two Swiss guys, hiring our own mini-bus so we could have some more comfort. We arrived in Chiang Mai being dropped at the night market where we were told there was lots of accomodation but suprise, suprise, we couldn't find anything! We ended up hiring a tuk-tuk being taken to the old town where we finally found a room at the Chiang Mai Whitehouse, the people were really friendly and we felt like we were at home. Just down the road from our hotel there was an english run restaurant called the Peppermint Cafe with imported english ingredients and the best thing was the HP sauce! Whilst in Chiang Mai we visited Bhubing Palace and temple which were elaborately decorated and the views from the top were ... read more

We entered Laos and once again they charged us a small amount for entering. We got a boat in Laos over to Don Det one of the four thousand islands. The boats were small and low and felt like they were going to sink. We stepped off the boat at Don Det and for a change no-one approached us, it was peaceful and very relaxing. We stayed in a small bungalow on stilts with hammocks outside our door and had a nice walk around the island, it was very beautiful. The island only had electricity for a few hours in the evening. We spent the time in the hammocks reading our books, playing with the little girl of the family and the animals who didnt leave us alone, including the bugs at night. We left Don ... read more

December 6th 2007

As we entered Cambodia it was much the same craziness, if not more. It struck us how poor this country was compared to Vietnam. From the moment we set foot off the bus beggars approached us and it was hard to be tough with them. Whilst in Phnom Penh we needed to arrange our Laos Visa so we hired a tuk tuk driver for the day to do this and we visited The Killing Fields, Tuol Sleng Museum and the russian market. Visiting the Killing Fields and the museum was a real eye opener. It was heartbreaking to see the horrors Pol Pot brought against this country and its people and we found the place and the photos so upsetting we decided not to put them on here. We left Phnom Penh for Siem Reap and ... read more
