Our border crossing from Bolivia to Peru was the easiest one yet. We got off the bus, walked across the border, had our passport stamped and got back on the same bus. Whilst in Puno we visited the islands of Lake Titicaca. We took a tour and ended up being on what looked like an Australian Saga holiday as we were the only ones below fifty. Firstly we visited the floating islands which are made entirely of the reeds from the lake. It was a weird sensation as the land was moving below us as we walked but we thought [View Full Entry]

We left Potosi for La Paz and said goodbye to Patrick, Maja and Ingrid it was quite sad as it was the last time we were going to see them. We arrived in La Paz at 6am and at first did not realise it was La Paz as we were supposed to arrive at 9am, we awoke from our sleep dazed and confused and hurried off the bus. We did not have a hostel booked so we picked a hostel from our guide book, took a taxi not releasing it was only a 2 minute walk around the corner and we [View Full Entry]

Our bus to Potosi was an experience in itself. People were sitting in the isles, standing where-ever there was space and practically sitting on our shoulders through the whole journey. As we were late our backpacks were put in the boot of the bus as opposed to on top. The boot had obviously not been used for years as they came out covered in thick, thick dust! We arrived in Potosi at 2am in the morning. It was a squeeze but we managed to fit all five of us in a taxi with our filthy luggage. The first hostel we went [View Full Entry]

We only spent one night in San Pedro as we plan to visit there on the way back. Our night there however, was quite an eventful one. That evening we returned to our hostel to find we were locked out. Maja had the key and was sound asleep. We spent a good hour outside the hostel texting, ringing, banging and shouting for help. Finally a guest at the hostel heard us shouting for help and came running to the door. He thought we were in trouble and let us in. We made our apologies and went to bed, so much for [View Full Entry]

Salta

South America » Argentina » Salta
We left Mendoza for Salta and arrived in the early hours of the morning. That day we explored Salta visiting the handicraft market and the many churches. Salta struck us as a very religious place even more so than the rest of Argentina. That afternoon we went for pizza and the man selling newspapers on the street wanted our left overs, even the crusts, we felt so sorry for him. We finally met up with Patrick after missing each other several times in Mendoza and went to an Irish bar and tried the local beer - Salta. Whilst in Salta we [View Full Entry]

We got a bus early in the morning from Pucon to Bariloche. Tracey and Maja left us but we carried on travelling with Stephan who looked after us and gave us actimal every morning. The first night we were there we went for a mexican and then to Kilkenny pub. The funny thing was we could not get any alcohol anywhere in town because of elections. Whilst in Bariloche we went for a long walk through the forest and along the lake. We visited the very small village of Shou Shou which was very pretty. Again we had another dog follow [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Pucon on the 12th May and wanted to climb an active volcano. We rented a cabin with fellow navimag crew Stephan, Tracey and Maja. It was freezing cold as all it had was one small gas heater but it was great to have our own mini house. When we entered the house at first we were convinced the house was moving but then we visited the supermarket and that was also moving so we realised we were still rocking from the boat. To climb the volcano we needed good weather so while we waited in Pucon we went [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Puerto Natales and arranged to do a tour around Torres del Paine national park. We had an early start as it was 2 hours away. The park was very beautiful but unfortunately because of the weather we could not see the 3 famous towers until later that afternoon when the sun came out. The mountains were totally different to the mountains we had seen before. There were valleys between the mountains and glaciers on them. They were pointed and very jagged in shape. For lunch we tried peanut butter and jam (jelly) sandwiches because we were with an [View Full Entry]

We took a bus from Ushuia to El Calafate and arrived at 1´0 clock in the morning after another 18 hour bus ride. At the bus station we met a danish girl and an australian guy called Micheal who we shared a dorm with in America Del Sur. The hostel was really nice and even had underfloor heating. We woke up really late and wondered into town. There were gangs of dogs everywhere, every time a car passed they would jump up with no fear. We were scared when the dogs came near us as we have not had our rabbis [View Full Entry]

End of the world here we are!!. From Rio Gellogos we got a connection bus to Ushuia straight away. In total we spent 33 hours on a bus! What we did not realise was when we were going to Ushuia we had to cross the border from Argentina to Chile and back again, this took hours. It seems silly that to get to 1 point of Argentina to another you have to pass through Chile. On the way to Ushuia we passed through mountains covered with snow, these glowed in the dark and was amazing to see. We meet a Korean [View Full Entry]
