The past few weeks I have been silent. I decided not to write anything for a while. Words rang through my head but I kept them silent in my brain. Nothing on paper was written. Moments just lived the way they were. A lot has happened in my family. My travels are dedicated to my cousin Marcos and grandmother Lydia who recently passed away. [View Full Entry]

I´m finally leaving the dusty, noisey home of El Misti, Arequipa. But it´s now time to say goodbye. Tomorrow I´ll be taking a bus for Tacna then taking a train ride into Arica (Chile) and from there, who knows where I´ll end up. Hello from Peru
Waitress for a few days
.

Montezuma´s revenge is not to be taken lightley? ¨You´ve only had your symptoms ONLY 3 days?¨ my friend nonchalantly asks me. Apparently having an upset stomach is all part of the traveling e'xperience while in Sourh America. ¨Not only will you get sick once, you will get sick 1, 2 ,3, more times!¨ my friend smerked. With three days of war in my stomach, I opted the easy way out. ANTIBOTICS, my friend and foe. After taking the first pill and 4 hours later, the war had settled and I was back to eating like a pig. Bread, strawberry jam, [View Full Entry]

Finally, I had decided to go to Puno. It took me a while to actually decide to go because El Festival De La Virgen de Candelaria was going on. Supposedly all hostiles were booked and bus ticket prices were much higher than normal. But Finally, I went. Chossing a bus company is not the easiest, there are tons, from the most expensive (Cruz del Sur) to the cheapest (AAlas del Sur). I opted for cheap. Big mistake. My departure was at 2pm but we did not leae until 4pm. Not ony that, but when I first saw the bus, I [View Full Entry]

I´m doing well. Not much has happened. I´ve been hanging out with my Chilean friends, the spaniard, pablo and the colombian, Daniel. Lots of guitar playing, singing and well, hanging out. There was one day when my Peruvian friends, Garth and Marisol, invited me to their house for lunch. WE ate a feast of stuffed Rocotto, pastel de papa, fruit salad, a lil vino, and a lil bit of Anis liqour. Marisol´s father, who is 80 something, insisted we drink the liqour, while the mother insisted we drink vino. Hanging out with the family was just awesome. Marisol´s mom is [View Full Entry]

Walking around Arequipa, I came across Colca trekkers tour company. I had originally set out for the day in search for a new hostel bc I did not like mine. Instead, I took a detour and walked into the tour company. Already asking for information were three girls that looked like they were from the states. With their broken spanish they were asking for a two day tour leaving that day for Colca Canyon. The tour operator told them that NO bus nor tour was leaving that day. Plus, a tour pacage with them was going to cost about 600 soles. [View Full Entry]

Colca Canyon : A canyon that is more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon. It´s about a 6 hr bus ride from AREQUIPA. In AREQUIPA, everyone tries to sell you a two day tour to the canyon but from what i´ve heard, the tours are not that great, they are expensive and it´s all done in a hurry. The Cheaper way to visit the canyon is to take a public bus from Arequipa, from the Bus Terrestre (a quick taxi ride from the city center at 3 soles), remember, you should call to make a bus reservation 24 [View Full Entry]
