My alarm went off at 6AM this morning after I had only slept a few hours but I was way too excited to worry about how tired I was because today was the beginning of a massive Trek America tour which travelled the country for 64 nights. I got out of bed, had a shower, got dressed and went down to the lobby to meet the rest of the tour group at 7AM. There were quite a few tours leaving this morning so it was difficult to know who was in my tour group or not. I put my bags down at sat with a small group of people who were already getting to know each other. The first person who spoke to me and introduced himself was a guy called Dave from England, who was ... read more

Today was my last day in New York City before I was catching a flight back to Los Angeles and starting my Trek America Tour around the USA for 64 nights. I spent all day in Central Park doing more exploring of places I wanted to go to but missed out on beforehand. It was a lonely day because the last 10 or so days I'd had company now I’m wandering around this massive city by myself which felt a little intimidating. I got some fantastic photos of the city skyscrapers towering over the trees in Central Park but apart from that it was a very relaxing and quiet day today. After wandering around Central Park for a few hours I went back to the hostel to pick up my bags and hung around until it ... read more

Today was Amy's last day in New York City before she was catching a bus to Philadelphia to continue her travels. So today we decided to explore central park a bit better and visit anywhere else we wanted to go but hadn't been yet. Most of the day we just wondered 5th avenue taking photos of different buildings and architecture but we ended up in "F.A.O Schwarz" which is a massive multi storey toy store which is packed full of different toys. We went in a videoed a guy doing a rubix cube in under a minute which was very impressive, don't know how he did it. We then moved on to Central Park and went photo crazy exploring around Central Park. We didn't have too much time left so we did what we could then ... read more

While staying in New York City we had heard about this famous deli called "Katz Delicatessen". It was a while out of the way but we decided to go check it out and experiance a true New York City Deli. We walked in at straight away a guy gave us a blue docket which we had to hold onto. There was loads to choose from and it took me a while until I decided on at turkey sandwich with lettuce and mayo. I put in my order with the Sandwich maker who then while making my sandwich put some turkey on a small plate for me to try first, it was fantastic, really good turkey. He offered me some me some pickles with my meal which I declined and went to eat my lunch, it was ... read more

This morning Amy and I were planning to meet some more of her friends from camp who were taking us out to breakfast. I was really in the mood for a big egg & bacon breakfast but the place we went to didn't serve the typical breakfast. We met them at Max Brenner which is a store which was famous for chocolate everything. We went in past the liquid chocolate fountains and pipes supposedly full of chocolate running around the restaurant. Amy and I order a sampler dish with different breakfast treats which were either covered in chocolate or you dipped in chocolate, it was quite good. Afterwards we decided to do some shopping and wandering around 34th street, not so much of a sightseeing day today. It was a terrible day in New York City ... read more

Got up today and again met with Amy to go explore downtown manhattan. We hopped on the subway and headed for Wall Street to check it out. When we arrived we began to walk down Wall street looking at the real business end of New York City and before long ended up at the New York Stock Exchange which had the biggest American flag i've ever seen draped on the outside. It was a beautiful old building which stood opposite a statue of George Washington and Federal Hall, another beautiful building full of American history. We tried to get a closer look at the New York Stock Exchange but realised that it is closed to public and fenced off around the entire building with plenty of security roaming around. We continued on down Wall Street taking ... read more

After a terribly quiet day yesterday, I had to make sure that I did something productive today. So I met up with Amy and walked around Times Square for a while going photo crazy, then caught the subway to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx to go see a baseball game to which we had booked tickets earlier. We arrived at the Stadium and had a look through the merchandise stores as I wanted to buy a Yankee top, but I had no idea which name to get, plus they were pretty expensive to buy so I didn't bother. We moved on into the stadium, went all the way to the top and found our seats. I went to get some snacks and got back just as the game was starting. It was the New York Yankees ... read more

Today I hardly did anything, it was a really lazy day today. I got up and met with Amy to help her move to another hostel, but when we got there they hadn't received her booking for whatever reason and had to refuse her, they were totally booked out. Most of the day we were actually looking for another hostel for her to stay at. She had another friend come by that she was going to stay with and eventually found a hotel to stay at. It's amazing how hard it is to find a bed whether it’s in a hostel or even hotel in New York at late notice. It took almost all day, yet she found a place and decided to catch up with her friend for the rest of the day. Late afternoon ... read more

Today I was exploring the big city on my own. Amy had gone to spend some time with Rachael and Alison so I decided to take a visit to the Empire State Building. It's the tallest building in New York City and I had to check out the observation deck while I was here. I woke quite early and took the subway downtown and arrived at the Empire State Building around 10:30AM. I took a few pictures from the street, trying hard to get the whole massive building in shot. The lobby was extremely impressive and very familiar, I’ve obviously seen it in movies or television before. I was so excited that I was standing inside the Empire State Building, one of the most famous buildings in the world and soon I’ll be on the top ... read more

Slept in a little longer today which was good because I needed to catch up on some extra sleep. Today I met up with Amy and caught the subway to downtown Manhattan to go see the Statue of Liberty. We arrived at the train station right at the tip of Manhattan and could see the statue in the distance already. There were loads of people around taking pictures from the station, I was one them, I couldn't believe I was actually staring at the Statue of Liberty. We walked around to the ferry to catch it to Liberty Island when I thought it was time to try my first New York hot dog, it was awesome. We eventually got the the ferry and there were so many people in a massive, massive queue that seemed to ... read more
