Another early start this morning, we packed our things and met in the hostel lobby ready to set off to Mt. Revelstoke. Before we left I went for a walk down the road to try find a souvenir shop to buy something tacky, nothing was open I gave up. It was a long day of driving today and we didn’t even have time to check out Mt Revelstoke, but it was planned for tomorrow. We arrived at the campsite in the evening, set up our tents and made dinner. We met a lady camping near us and chatted to her about our adventures while she kindly took some photos for us. For the rest of the night we got drunk and played poker long into the early hours of the morning. Day 11: Vancouver - Mount ... read more

Today we were leaving the country and heading into Canada for a week. Our first stop was Vancouver. On the border we were all granted access into Canada and we stocked up on duty free alcohol spending well over $200, hopefully it would last us a while. We arrived in Vancouver around 3PM and first we went to see some Totem Poles. Took some photos and from here we had a good view of the city skyline of Vancouver. We then headed for our hostel which was quite busy, it was a popular place, we got a free beer as well! Tonight I shared a dorm room with Dave and Ben. We hung around the hostel for a while and did some much needed washing while we watched Lucy dye her hair. I headed down to ... read more

Today we were heading to one of the places I was really looking forward to, Seattle. It was quite a drive until we came into Seattle and headed for our Hotel, which was a little while outside the city, closer to the airport. We got our rooms and I was in a room with Ben, I wasn’t happy, Dave got his own room. I threw my gear on the bed and went to have a look around the hotel, went on the internet for a while then met with everyone in the hotel lobby. We didn’t have much time in Seattle unfortunately, we had from 4PM then headed off again early tomorrow. Jon dropped us off down town and we began to have a look around. First we went to the space needle and headed up ... read more

We drove to Oregon Coast today to do another optional activity, which everyone participated in, a Sand Dunes tour. We arrived at our campsite to find they didn’t really have anywhere for us to camp so they threw us in the corner near the storage sheds and tractors. It wasn’t a big deal, we set up our tents and got our gear ready for the Sand Dunes. Jon warned us that if we do take our camera, to put it in a bag because sand is going to get everywhere, he wasn’t kidding. We arrived at this fun park place which had things like mini-golf, boat rides etc. We bought our tickets for the tour and had to drive down the road to the starting point. I was so excited this was going to be awesome. ... read more

Today we got up around 7AM, another very early start. We all had showers and breakfast then jumped into the van to do some hiking around Redwood National Park. We drove to an information centre to find some elk hanging around in the field so we took the best photos we could without getting too close. We headed over to the information centre but it wasn’t open yet so we drove back down the road for a bit and did a short hike in the meantime. It was less than a mile, we did a circle and saw a massive sequoia tree, it was absolutely huge. It took 20min before we hopped into the van and headed back to the information centre. This time the other trek group were there taking photos of the elk and ... read more

Today we were heading for Redwood National Park, most of us had never heard of it so we didn't know what to expect. We got up and got ready, meeting the rest of the group in the hotel lobby while Jon went to get the van. We threw our stuff into the trailer and drove....and we drove for miles and miles. In fact nearly all of today was driving to Redwood National Park so there wasn't too much else that happened. We didn't get to our campsite until late afternoon, at this particular campsite we were setup right next to the other trek group. We unpacked, put up our tents and setup our campsite. We were here for two nights, our first camping stop more than one night. Also tonight was our first night that we ... read more

Got up very early again today, around 6:30AM, to go down to the pier and try to get tickets to the Alcatraz tour. Dave, Ben, Sara and myself caught a cab and arrived at the ticket booth around 7:30AM to find that there were tickets available to the earliest boat over. We called the hotel and got put through to the others to tell them the good news, we waited around and bought tickets as soon as they were on sale. While we waited in line Dave took a taxi to get some breakfast and ended up taking around 30 minutes to get coffee. Lucy, Elaine and Min arrived just in time to board the boat and we were on our way to Alcatraz. Shortly after we arrived in Alcatraz we went inside and watched a ... read more

Another early start today, we're getting used to them now. We made breakfast, got ready and packed our tents up, ready for our next stop, San Francisco. My legs were still very sore, but there was no time for complaining about it now. We first drove to the Yosemite National Park visitors centre and waited 10 minutes until it opened. We had a quick look around some of the stores nearby for souvenirs then went back to the van to leave. We soon stopped at the Yosemite National Park sign and got some photos with the group then got back in the van for the drive to San Francisco. Most of the way we were playing card games or sleeping from the massive day we had yesterday. We arrived in San Francisco and went straight to ... read more

Got up around 6:30AM, still very drunk from last night, and got ready for a big day of hiking. I got a bottle of water, lunch and some snacks ready to take with me, but I needed more water, we'd get some on the way. We all hopped in the van for our drive to Glacier Point in Yosemite Valley and stopped at a gas station to discover it wasn't open yet. No problem, we'll use the vending machines around the side, but.. they didn't work, we had only the supplies that we took from camp, we thought it would be ok. We continued on quite a drive and I was feeling terribly sick from last night, I ended up sleeping most of the drive before we reached Glacier Point. When we arrived we gathered around ... read more

Woke up early this morning and we all made breakfast and coffee. We went to have showers and get ready then cleaned up our mess and learned how to pack our tents, which we would have to do most mornings. Soon after we were ready to go, everyone jumped into the van and we were off to our next stop, Yosemite National Park. On the way we stopped off at a famous saloon called "Iron Door" which was established in 1852. We walked inside to find hundreds of dollar bills pinned to the roof which was a strange sight. The idea was to get $1, the guy behind the bar would give you a pin then you throw the bill into the ceiling. Easy enough, Dave did it first try, mine on the other hand taken ... read more
