Today I hardly did anything, it was a really lazy day today. I got up and met with Amy to help her move to another hostel, but when we got there they hadn't received her booking for whatever reason and had to refuse her, they were totally booked out. Most of the day we were actually looking for another hostel for her to stay at. She had another friend come by that she was going to stay with and eventually found a hotel to stay at. It's amazing how hard it is to find a bed whether it’s in a hostel or even hotel in New York at late notice. It took almost all day, yet she found a place and decided to catch up with her friend for the rest of the day. Late afternoon ... read more

Today I was exploring the big city on my own. Amy had gone to spend some time with Rachael and Alison so I decided to take a visit to the Empire State Building. It's the tallest building in New York City and I had to check out the observation deck while I was here. I woke quite early and took the subway downtown and arrived at the Empire State Building around 10:30AM. I took a few pictures from the street, trying hard to get the whole massive building in shot. The lobby was extremely impressive and very familiar, I’ve obviously seen it in movies or television before. I was so excited that I was standing inside the Empire State Building, one of the most famous buildings in the world and soon I’ll be on the top ... read more

Slept in a little longer today which was good because I needed to catch up on some extra sleep. Today I met up with Amy and caught the subway to downtown Manhattan to go see the Statue of Liberty. We arrived at the train station right at the tip of Manhattan and could see the statue in the distance already. There were loads of people around taking pictures from the station, I was one them, I couldn't believe I was actually staring at the Statue of Liberty. We walked around to the ferry to catch it to Liberty Island when I thought it was time to try my first New York hot dog, it was awesome. We eventually got the the ferry and there were so many people in a massive, massive queue that seemed to ... read more

I woke up today even earlier than yesterday went down and my luggage had arrived. It's about time, I felt so much better and much more comfortable now that I had all my clothes and toiletries. I was out of the hostel at around 8AM, once again walking around central park, exploring the other end. It wasn't long before I met up with Amy and two more of her friends: Alison and Rachael. Today they were going to the Museum of Natural History, which I wasn't really interested in because I hadn't heard much about it. We took the subway entrance that leads directly into the museum and decided to not pay the voluntary advised amount of $15 but instead paid $5 each. We decided to start at the top floor which had all the dinosaur ... read more

I woke up quite early on my first day in New York. I thought I would have slept for ages since I had hardly any sleep yesterday but maybe it's the jetlag and the time difference which is confusing my sleeping pattern. Got up around 8AM had a shower and got back into the clothes I was wearing yesterday. I went to reception to see if they had my luggage but they didn't, I thought I'd check again later in the day, right now I’m going to explore New York. I grabbed a map and headed to Central Park. I wondered around Central Park amazed I was in one of the biggest cities in the world. I stopped at the massive lake for some pictures of the beautiful city skyline view from central park. With huge ... read more

On the 13th of August 2007, I woke up to my alarm at 4AM, packed and ready for my first overseas trip to the United States of America. I'd been running around like crazy the last few days trying to get everything ready to go. I was up very late the night before trying to pack all the stuff I had planned to take in my backpack but had to cut quite a lot of clothes out because I just couldn't fit them in. It took me a while to get out of bed but I was so excited of what I was about to do I jumped out and had some breakfast, then double checked I had everything I needed and was ready to go. Took one last look at my house then got in ... read more
