San Fransisco
On our way to Alcatraz Got up very early again today, around 6:30AM, to go down to the pier and try to get tickets to the Alcatraz tour. Dave, Ben, Sara and myself caught a cab and arrived at the ticket booth around 7:30AM to find that there were tickets available to the earliest boat over. We called the hotel and got put through to the others to tell them the good news, we waited around and bought tickets as soon as they were on sale. While we waited in line Dave took a taxi to get some breakfast and ended up taking around 30 minutes to get coffee. Lucy, Elaine and Min arrived just in time to board the boat and we were on our way to Alcatraz. Shortly after we arrived in Alcatraz we went inside and watched a short movie before wondering around on our own. This place was amazing, so much history to it, it was more than just a prison but more like a small village. We eventually went into a room which was giving out free audio tours, so we each got one and followed it around the cells, the admininstration rooms, the dinning hall and even took us outside

Cell block in Alcatraz around the buildings. It was fantastic, it really gave you a sense of what went on around here, told you stories and all about the strict daily procedures. After the tour we returned the headphones had a little more look of around then caught the ferry back over to San Fransisco pier.
We then wanted to visit Lombard Street, but had no real idea of how to get there due to San Fransisco's strange hilly layout. So we asked a complete stranger and not only did he tell us how to get there, he led us most of the way. We eventually got there and stood with heaps of other people taking photos. We slowly walked up Lombard Street, it was extremly steep though we finally made it to the top, we were buggered. We caught our first cable car which was alot of fun, then got off and went for lunch at a bagel cafe. We walked down Chinatown having a look around checking out the souvenir shops. For the rest of the day afterwards we went riding of the cable cars all over the city, we loved them. We were riding around for a couple of hours

View of San Fransisco from Alcatraz until it was time to head back to the hotel and meet with the rest of the group for dinner, some had left to rest after we left Chinatown. When we got back to the hotel some of us did laundry and had a few drinks at the internet bar around the corner from our hotel. We met everyone a little later on and were recommended to a Mexican restaurant around the corner so thats what we did. Had a great meal there, a little expensive but really good food. A few of us decided to check out the nightlife in San Fransisco and headed out looking for some pubs. We were walking for a while until we finally found a nice place in an alleyway. So we sat and had some drinks, chatting about our tour so far then headed back to the hotel to rest. It was a big day, we'd been up since 6:30AM and were extremly tired from walking around amazing San Fransisco.
