Redwood National Park
Looking up at a massive Sequoia tree Today we got up around 7AM, another very early start. We all had showers and breakfast then jumped into the van to do some hiking around Redwood National Park. We drove to an information centre to find some elk hanging around in the field so we took the best photos we could without getting too close. We headed over to the information centre but it wasn’t open yet so we drove back down the road for a bit and did a short hike in the meantime. It was less than a mile, we did a circle and saw a massive sequoia tree, it was absolutely huge. It took 20min before we hopped into the van and headed back to the information centre. This time the other trek group were there taking photos of the elk and the information centre was open. We had a look around all the displays then left to do another short hike with plenty of large sequoia trees towering over us.
Around lunchtime we returned back to our campsite for some much needed food and a short rest as we were stuffed from the early start and the night before. We decided on going to the
Redwood National Park
Welcome to Redwood National Park mystery trees which was a small centre full of strange trees. We got there and saw a massive statue of a guy with a beard holding an axe, with a blue bull standing next to him. He was talking to us, at first we thought it was just programmed until he started commenting on Sara’s nice red shoes, it freaked us all out. We didn’t know what to expect at this place and we were all thinking it was a bit of a joke. We paid $10 to get in and wondered around a small garden of plants and small statues then continued on past some extremely strange (but natural) trees. We eventually saw a cathedral tree, which had strange growths in the shape of a semi-circle, they frequently held weddings there, it was quite impressive. We moved along and found a sky lift which took us to the top of the mountain there. Got some great views of the forest but there really wasn’t much else to see because it was just too cloudy.
We headed back down the sky lift and continued on to see some amazing animals and statues carved out of trees. We took some
funny photos, mainly with Ben standing next to a bear, and then headed through the gift shop to leave. It was a very strange place, pretty boring and by that time we had all had enough of looking at trees. We headed back to camp in the middle of the afternoon and hung around for awhile before Jon wanted to do a hike. Most of the group didn’t want to however Tina, Dave and I decided to check it out. We walked through a short trail to a beach which had black sand and quite rough water, it was a nice place, Jon seemed quite relaxed here. We returned to the campsite and made dinner then decided to have a quieter night tonight since we were told off from the night before. We borrowed some table tennis and pool equipment and headed for the games room in the barn. Just hung around drinking a while having a great time before going to sleep late evening.
