We got up and packed our stuff up to head back to the airport again. We left the hotel quite early and didn’t have to push through the market because they weren’t open yet. We took the local train a few stops and got off to look for the Air Asia shuttle bus, after asking someone we eventually found it and were on our way to the airport. When we checked in and were told that our luggage weighed too much, it was 15kg each but we were at around 20kg each so we had to pay extra for excess baggage. After a short flight we arrived in Phuket, to similar hot and humid conditions which we encountered in Kuala Lumpur. When we passed imergration into Phuket we once again had taxi drivers waiting for us ... read more

A very early morning start today because we wanted to get tickets to the sky bridge of the Petronas towers. We hadn’t slept very well because of all the noise coming from the markets on the street, they don’t go all night but it takes a while for them to pack up their stalls. We got ready and caught the train to the Petronas Towers. We found the queue and lined up for tickets, there were already quite a few people there but we weren’t missing out. Eventually we got our free tickets to go up at 10AM. We left to have some breakfast somewhere in the shopping mall above and returned just before 10. We went into the lift and soon enough we were on the sky bridge. It was amazing, somewhere I’d always wanted ... read more

We woke up to the sound of pouring rain, it was a terrible day today. We still had our hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus tickets so we planned to do the other route which we hadn’t been on as yet. We packed up our stuff and checked out of the hotel, we left most of our luggage there for the day and headed out. We got on the sightseeing bus and drove around the other route, down Orchid Road. It was so dark and the rain was pouring down we couldn’t really do too much today. We got off at Raffle’s Hotel to have another look around the shops and to see inside the Hotel lobby then decided to head for the airport, it was just too wet to do anything. The sightseeing bus stopped for a ... read more

Hannah and I woke up early and got ready for another day in Singapore. We headed straight for the bus stop outside our hotel to get the hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus around Singapore but we weren’t sure if it stopped here or not, but after waiting ages it finally came. We stayed on the bus all morning taking photos and getting a complete tour of Singapore but we really wanted to check out the famous Singapore zoo so we got off and headed for the train. We took the train to the bus terminal then after a long wait took the bus straight to the zoo, it took just over an hour to get there. First thing we did was get some lunch, KFC sounded good but after we ordered and received our food we didn’t ... read more

We slept in a little because we were so tired but we left the hotel around 11AM for a day to explore Singapore. We headed down to the river and bought some breakfast of the way. It wasn’t long before we reached Raffle’s Hotel, we had a bit of a look around but most of it seemed closed so we continued down towards the Singapore River. We took some photos of the impressive Singapore skyline then decided to check out Sentosa Island which was a theme park style place with various attractions. We found the nearest subway station and headed to the office building where the cable cars left to Sentosa Island. Shortly after we crossed to Sentosa Island in a glass bottom cable car then decided to have a look around. We headed for Palawan ... read more

Woke up this morning after getting hardly any sleep, I was way too excited about what was ahead. I had spent all day yesterday packing and running around buying last minute things. We (Hannah & I) got out of bed and continued to pack the stuff that was left around from yesterday then had breakfast. I said goodbye to my room and house then we were off to the airport. My flight left at 12:35pm and stopped in Darwin before then going to Singapore. Where as Hannah’s flight left Melbourne at 15:30 and was a direct flight to Singapore. We arrived at the airport with my family and in checked in with Jetstar. We got some lunch and by that time I had to go board my first flight to Darwin. Said goodbye to my family ... read more

The first few days after trek were quite unusual. We had all gotten so used to getting up early and packing our bags that to finally have our own time was surreal. It was strange not having to get in the van and being told where we were going today, instead we woke up and had nothing to do. Hannah left on the first day to go meet a friend and travel to San Francisco so I was pretty down. Dave, Sara and I headed out to explore the city of Los Angeles since we didn’t get a chance before we left for the tour. We headed down to Venice Beach which took ages, two buses and a long walk. But Venice Beach was great, exactly how you see it on television and in movies. We ... read more

This is it. The last day of our massive 64 day trek around the United States of America, we couldn’t believe it was finally here. We all got up pretty early to sort some of our stuff out. We packed up our tents for the last time and packed the trailer once more before we were on our way. Jon gave us questionnaires to fill out on how we thought the trek went and how Jon’s performance and a trek leader was. We drove to Los Angeles, back to La Hacienda where the trek began 64 days ago. We had traveled over 12,000 miles around the entire country and were back in the hotel where it all started. When we arrived it was such a strange feeling being back, I don’t think any of us expected ... read more

We woke up early today and ready for a day in San Diego. First we headed down to the famous San Diego SeaWorld but after hanging around not really sure what to do we ended up deciding against it. Most of the shows we wanted to see weren’t till much later on and a few of the attractions were closed, that and the fact it was incredibly expensive entrance price. Instead we drove into San Diego and found a spot big enough to park the van. We headed down the road to find somewhere for breakfast, some of the girls gave up and went to Starbucks but as soon as they did we decided on the restaurant across the road. Breakfast was good, it was a Mexican themed restaurant and seemed mainly to do Mexican food ... read more

We were up super early this morning to pack up our mess and head down to meet the rest of the group at their hotel. We were in the van and on our way to San Diego by 8AM, we had a long drive today. We also needed to take a bit of a detour due to all the fires in California. As we entered California and got closer to the fires the sky actually turned red and the stench of smoke was intense, we were extremely close. We suddenly saw a large helicopter fly overhead and drop a ton of water into the forest just off the road. We stopped to have lunch at McDonald’s by this time Ben had absolutely no money left and we ended up putting in for his lunch. We set ... read more
