Geo: 13.7308, 100.521Bangkok...Yep...Little did I know...indeed...little did I know how well that bitch of a city served an alpha male...I was in fact a "gamma male" that turned alpha. My life surrounding ancient temples...Buddhist life in a kingdom of old dynasties...Life still had ancient touches to it... Prior to the 2000's, girls in Thailand where generally not allowed to have boyfriends...Families had a watchful eye over them...Foreigners were out of their watch...How handy was that for a beautiful Thai girl in the 90's?... I tell you...Almost every girl out of a good, rich family wanted to be your girlfriend...No kidding...That's when I decided...Let's call it home...Indeed it become my home in paradise for years to come...I even through in a business I run in Bangkok successfully...Well, than came 2001...Things have changed to the bad...worse...worst...... read more

Looking Back: Boracay - Jan. 1993. The first time I went to Boracay was after I met Margrit in Bangkok. She is from Hungary and has travelled a lot. I also learned about the Lonely Planet guides from her. At the airport in Bangkok, I bought several Lonely Planet guides, of course, I got a Phillipines guidebook. I travel in the Philippines but to places where I had relatives. I began to travel to Cebu in my late teens, I have an uncle whose family is based there. After my friends and I graduated from college, our first trip together was in Cebu. I'll have to write a blog about that trip. Back to Boracay, I went with my dad in 1993. We arrive at the island of Boracay at about 7:00pm. We took a ... read more

1992………..2MTHS-1st CYCLING TRIP-1300kms ACROSS INDONESIA 26/7/92 Ubud (46.2km 1219.8km) I arrived in Ubud in 2 hrs from Padangbai. The road was noisy, polluted and busy. Not pleasant at all and I thought I would be relieved to get to Ubud, but boy has it changed! I found it hard to find a place as there was so much choice and it was more expensive. The streets are absolutely lined with shops. I spent part of the morning at Puri Lukisan, Ubud’s Art Museum, which was opened in 1956. The gardens remain unchanged but two of the large buildings have fallen into disrepair and are not used at all. The museum is significant in that it shows the movement of the 1930’s when artists broke away from traditional formalistic paintings of mythological scenes and Hindu epic stories ... read more

1992………..2MTHS-1st CYCLING TRIP-1300kms ACROSS INDONESIA 8/7/92 Mataram, Lombok 21.46km The over-night bus ride through Sumbawa was long, with not a lot of sleep but it was compensated by the pleasant 1½ hr boat trip to Lombok. I realize now how undeveloped Flores was. Lombok has good wide roads and a lot of traffic, 4x drives, bicycles, bemos and ‘Ben Hurs’ - horse drawn carriages. People are more reserved and just stare with a few hellos. It is a relief to get some personal space. 9/7/92 Kuta, Lombok 58km 978.15 km total I spent a few days cycling through Lombok and lazing on beaches. This morning I had my thinking challenged by a German girl who I talked with last night about Flores. She is a lace bobbin maker and previously a garden designer. She was having ... read more

1992………..2MTHS-1st CYCLING TRIP-1300kms ACROSS INDONESIA 4/7/92 Labuhanbajo - Rinca I met the others at 8 am for what was meant to be an 8.30 am start except the tide was out and we couldn’t leave till 10.30 when they were able to finally push the boat free. There turned out to be 13 on the boat instead of the max of 12 promised but we fitted on OK lying on the deck- no seats, mattresses stored below to use at night. I was able to put my bike below with the rest of the luggage. We got out to the boat by small dugouts, which were very precarious. It turned out to be an interesting group of adventurers and with the 4 Indonesians there were 9 countries represented- USA, Aust, Sweden, Germany, Canada, Holland, England and ... read more

1992………..2MTHS-1st CYCLING TRIP-1300kms ACROSS INDONESIA Heading from Adelaide to Darwin to Kupang, Timor, I started my cycling trip proper in Flores........... 21/6/ 92 Maumere, Flores Flores is about 360km long, although its road from East to West ends up being 700km, with it winding through the mountains. It averages 60 km wide and is 72 km at its widest. Racial types are very complex in Nusa Tengarra, especially on Flores and Timor, where not only Malays and mixed blood Portuguese are found, but also descendants of even earlier Veddoids, Negritos, archaic Melanesian and Australoids- it really shows in the people who are of varying facial and stature characteristics- occasionally some with reddish or blond hair or very straight or very frizzy hair, looking Papuan. I gave my bike legs a rest to get ready for heading ... read more

Yokoso Nihon e My first time outside the US, except for the Philippines. I went with my friend. His name is Wei (can't remember his last name. We were friends from my college days in UCI). We went to Tokyo but stayed with his older brother in suburb of Tsurumi. The commute to Tokyo was about 30 mins. Eventually we had to leave because I started to snore loudly, and neither of them could sleep. It turned out that the I was jet-lagged but I just didn't know it. We joined a bus tour and went to Kamakura and Hakone. The skies were clear, so it was a picture perfect day. We could see Fujisan from the lake. After the tour, we would stay with my friend Tuan in Ibaraki. When we returned, we met my ... read more
