Wow,how time flies! It's now 2007.I had celebrated new year by going to Chiangmai and Pai with hubby and friends. It was so wonderful there.Unlike many places i've been to,people there are very relaxed ,they said that living in Pai,everyday is a holiday. You can feel it once you are there,it's really a relaxing place.I stayed in Chiangmai for the first night i got there, waiting for my friends to join to Pai.During staying there,i went to Nimmanhenin Road, there are lots of furniture shops and also small decorating stuffs.Everything are so arty, the outfits they wear, the way they decorate their shops, the way they talk, all are nice.I enjoyed spending time there even for a few hours.I've got some coin's purses for my friends,it's unbelievable cheap, only 12 baht for each!or 30 cent us$hahaha! That night i had a dinner with my old friend ... read more

Erste ... read more

Hope you are all having a wonderful Christmas day; that the Queen's speech was to the point, the turkey was thawed properly and that this year's film on the Beeb is one you haven't seen before. RIP Pauline Fowler.... We are missing you all incredibly and wish that we could be whisked back to Blighty for this week particularly. We've chosen to spend Christmas in Pai in Northern Thailand. It's a lovely hillside town with a distinctly Green Fields at Glastonbury vibe. As we've opted for the hills, its very cold here at night (fleeces, gloves and hats) so its feeling more like Christmas and we know how you are all feeling back home - at least you have heating though. We're quite excited about New Year's Eve as we'll be flying to the warmth of ... read more

We arrived in Pai sometime in the afternoon after a rollercoaster bus journey over the mountains. All four of us felt a little dizzy and wanted to find our new home as soon as possible so we walked down Pai's main street, over a river on a bamboo bridge to the bamboo huts we had been recommended by a nice couple in Chiang Mai. We chose the bungalows without en-suite bathrooms so we could save some money and instead spend it on having fun. The bungalows were very basic but would be fine for what we needed; a place to rest and sleep at night. It felt quite like camping having to go outside to the bamboo hut toilets and showers. Yes absolutely everything is made of bamboo here...what a versatile material. On the first night ... read more

Well tomorrow we head off for our christmas break. Its a 8 hour bus ride to Bangkok then about a 10-12 hour bus ride to Krabi (I'm not too sure... I just hope i get there!). This past while we've had lots of Christmas activities. Yesterday, we had the big celebration at school. There was a jingle bell dance (including a wonderful solo from a ladyboy), a santa speech contest and present sharing. In class I've been making Christmas cards, singing songs, teaching the Christmas Story and my favourite, playing pin the nose on Rudolph. Last night we made the trek to Ban Nam Rin to see our friends and celebrate Christmas. It was pretty sad because one of our friends, Louise, is goipng home at the beggining of January due to homesickness. We ate too ... read more

This blog is well over due, almost a year actually but I've decided to finish it off anyway to sort of wrap up my travel diary... I've probably got 3-4 entries left to go before my life got back to normal at the start of this year. Here I pick up where I left off with Steph in Thailand, we did a quick trip north from Chang Mai to a little hippie town called Pai, to relax and try out our elephant whispering skills. The Trek was a bit boring, but swimming with the Elephant was plenty of fun! Fact for the day = Elephants can do minute-long farts!!!... read more

Right! So now that I've had a good night's sleep and stopped feeling sorry for myself, I better fill you in on what I've been up to in my last few days. On the day I got my antibiotics I decided for the first time not to heed the doctor's orders, and went out on the lash again. Tom and his mates were playing a gig at a bar that's pretty much like a gigantic barn. I sat there talking crap with Conrad and Jules for a couple of hours, and pretty much managed to pace myself enough. It was after the two of them decided to head home to bed, and this Italian girl I met here in Chiang Mai showed up, that everything went downhill. She'd brought these two Israeli guys with her, and ... read more

First off, thanks everyone for your lovely comments. And I hope you checked out the video of Tom playing guitar... I figured out I actually do have sound on my camera, it just doesn't play back on the camera for some reason. I'll sort it out. BUT! I think I've just found the best place on the planet. I've totally fallen in love with Pai, in the Mae Hong Son province. But let's start where we left off! On Saturday night after wandering around the Chiang Mai night markets buying stuff, I was of course back in the rasta bar listening to some tunes - the more I hung out there the friendlier everyone got and they would be bringing me my drinks every time my beer was running low. I knew it was my last ... read more

Hi everyone, So sorry, but I won't be giving you much of a Pai update, afterall. I've taken nearly 2 hours uploading photos and videos from the trek, and my time here has come to a close. We've had a lovely 2 days here in Pai, though. Rented motorbikes again (I know, we're dumb, but we had insurance this time!) and it was a great way to see the gorgeous country side. Really a lovely time. We also met up with Vicky, Jost, and Rob from trekking, and we've been hanging out a bit (along with a friend of theirs, Lauren, from the US). I'll put up a couple quick picks but I've really got to go! The guide books say it all, though: Pai is a perfect and interesting mix of western and asian tourists, ... read more
