Nada!

It's my first time to venture out on my own today. I only have two places in mind - Chinatown and Little India. They say that both places offers you a feel of their namesake countries. I'm going to find out and see for myself. First stop - Chinatown. There are also chinatowns back in PH but I am actually afraid of the streets of Manila. I'm not even confortable taking the train there. Though I also wanted to visit Binondo, I think my street smarts are not yet at par. Here though, you still see the usual chaos and hustle, but it still feels relatively safe as what Singapore generally is. One thing that really caught my attention is the fact that a Buddhist temple, Hindu temple and a Muslim mosque are just a block ... read more

After all the travelling yesterday we were in bed by 8pm. The hostel is really good as you get free tea, coffee, toast and water and the facilities are quite good. Our dorm has about 10 sets of bunk beds in but no-ones really that chatty here. For the record, it’s called Rucksack Inn and is the nicest for the price in Singapore for £12.50 a night (most expensive accommodation of our whole trip). Today we woke up at 9am feeling refreshed after 11hours sleep and after our free breakfast, set out for our own little walking tour. Singapore City center is tiny, we covered it in a day. First we walked up to Little India, then Arab Street, Marina Sands and Chinatown. All 4 areas are really different and show to culture of Singapore. ... read more

So this is my final entry......Our last place to visit was Singapore. We took a sky train and 3 metros and finally got to Chinatown. We were tired as we had partied the night before, so whe we arrived at the hostel we took a nap and then explored Chinatown. It was full of cheap jewellery and stalls and food. We were in heaven. We did a little jewellery shopping and had a coconut. We then found a german sausage stall and bought a hotdog. The next day we did a little city tour of our own. We visited Little India, saw Hindu temples, gold jewellery and ate a proper curry on a tray which was very filling and delicious. We then walked around the harbour and saw the crazy architecture, and crossed the bridge and ... read more

We waited for all of the tours to depart the ship so that we could glide through the immigration procedures without the long lines. Singapore is the most efficient country in the world except when it comes to entering or leaving. I think they want to make sure the no troublemakers enter their serene territory. Our friend Mary told us of a quote she read regarding this city-state that goes something like…”Singapore is the world’s only shopping mall with a seat at the United Nations.” This former British colonial outpost is now the most modern of cities. Spotlessly clean, modern buildings and roads, and a great public transit system are just some of the features of the Lion City. Flowers and palm trees serve to camouflage the concrete overpasses and many fountains drown out the traffic ... read more

Agreed to have a sleep in this morning, so we were up at 8:30am FFS. I was having a dream about some choir and then woke up a bit realising I could still hear a school choir. I woke up fully to work out where the sound was coming from, next door maybe? Then I worked out it was Nads snoring – sounded just like a school choir. I then had to check in the morning whether I had already told her, as I had had two subsequent dreams where I had told her and one where she had replied that I had already told her. Got a local breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast which was surprising nice and expensive. Did a bit of shopping until everyone was bored, then we got split up and ... read more

Stacey and I decided to go to Chinatown on Thursday before our flight as unfortunately Nicole had to fly back home but she will be back when we return to Singapore so we shall all see the Marine Bay Sands and experience the views there and all also go to raffles for our Singapore sling! We only had a short period of time before our flight to Borneo so we went to the Buddha tooth temple and then walked around the markets in china town. Luckily we made it back to our hotel just in time for the heavens to open up and we experienced rain for the 1st time since leaving good old blighty. We then flew to Borneo and have stayed for 2 nights at the Borneo Gaya Lodge in KK. Its a very ... read more

It's clean, really clean, it's organized, it smells nice, its busy but remains peaceeful it's Singapore and it's nothing like anywhere else in South East Asia I have been. It doesn't seem like the South East Asia that I have been getting to know over the past few weeks. If it wasn't for the Chinese New Year decorations in Chinatown and all the Asian people on the streets one may not even think that this is Asia. What a pleasant change from the hectic and in your face attitude of Ho Chi Minh City to this place where one can walk at peace admiring the architecture while letting daydreams float about inside ones head. Singapore is a beuatiful city with interesting architecture, interesting laws (laws on chewing gum, poppy seeds durian fruit on the subways, strict ... read more
