The north side of Hong Kong island is a new city with mainly high-rise building. District are called Central, Sheung wan and Soho. It has a little feel of NYC but doesn't have the same charisma. This is very obvious when you get to see it from above. I went on top of Victoria peak (using the cabled tram, I'm lazy) and there is no building that you can recognise. Except maybe the one of the Bank of China but I have just learnt about it today. There is no iconic buildings and most of the high rise are apartment blocks. Don't get me wrong, the view was still nice and well worth the trip up there. I went up there late afternoon to catch the sunset and have the night view.
Before that I visited the Bank of China viewing platform on floor 43. It's a free view over HK harbour and Kowloon on the other side of the river, so might as well take it! Then I walk around Central and Soho. In Soho, there is a street escalator because the streets in the area are very steep so for lazy people to go up hill they have installed
an escalator. Crazy! As the name might tip, Soho is mostly a shopping district for top of the range brands. To the west of the island is the Sheung Wan district with a lot of narrows streets and temples. The few temples I went in today were very peculiar, with round incense I hadn't seen before. And a lot of them so the atmosphere was saturated with incense's smoke.
