New Side by Side this year
Tom getting things unhooked and ready!Today was our 3rd annual "side by side" riding day. We went to bed with it raining really hard but the weather said it would be fine for our trip today. We got up at 7:00, ate breakfast and headed to our staging spot on Beaver Reservoir Road. We were on the road at exactly 9:00. We forgot our jackets and gloves this year at home, but we did have long sleeves, long pants, and hoodies to help us stay warm in the morning. Tom used his sewer gloves to keep his hands warm...you gotta do what you gotta do.
We had a very nice forest road to follow towards Blowout Pass. We decided to go through Summitville that we went through 2 years ago. It WAS cold up there and I thought about heading back, but Tom said we could do it. Once we got off the over 11,000 ft summit, it did get better. When we got to Jasper, we took a right to go the final 5 miles to Blowout Pass...boy it was a rough 5 miles. I took 1 picture of it, but it is NOT close to being how rough it got further up the

We parked right beside this pretty place trail. I couldn't take pictures then, because I didn't want to drop the camera! It was definitely a single lane...we kept our fingers crossed that no one would come down it...and luckily they didn't. I don't know what we could have done.
We finally made it and it was beautiful at the top...beautiful mountains in the distance, green grassland and tons of mosquitos. ( I don't understand why they are so abundant at such high elevations!) We ate our lunch quickly and saw some other people coming down the trail. We asked them what we were supposed to be seeing up there and they said the mountains. I don't think they were correct, because when we got back to camp, Miles said we should have seen black rocks where it looked like the mountain had been blown up. Unfortunately, there are not signs up there to show us anything.
Then we went a different way back down the mountain and ended back at our car 5 1/2 hours after starting our day with NO rain. We had a really nice time and look forward to seeing something new next year. I would love to
go over to Silverton via San Juan Ranch on way to Lake City, but we are told it takes about 6 hours just to get there and it is rough!
Tom and I are all cleaned up and starting to think about dinner. No plans for tomorrow as of now. Hope all is going well with each of you! =)
