Monarch Mountain
It still has snow on it! Hello, Hello!
We have wonderful wifi where we are at!!! I am sitting in my recliner with cool temps and my wonderful husband by my side! Tom and I got up this morning at
7:00 MST to go on our 2.9 mile hike around the lake at Lathrop State Park. I did not bring my camera so I did not take any pictures. Too bad, because as we were walking I saw what looked like blood all over the walkway. Tom thought is was just the color of the trail but I thought not. Sure enough, off the path was a deer half eaten! Aren't you glad I don't have a picture of that. Our thoughts were...what did that???!!! I don't think they have bears in the area, but don't know for sure. A guy rode by on his bicycle and said that he would report it to the rangers.
We finished our walk and went back to the camper to eat and get ready for our 3 hour drive to Salida, Colorado. We left camp at 10:45 and we were on our way. We went on the the route we went last year
on HWY 69. We decided last night that we would stop like we did last year in Westcliffe and eat lunch in the camper. I made a wonderful tuna salad sandwich for us last night and we enjoyed a yummy lunch without having to spend money. The temps were very nice and we had a nice time eating in the camper.
Then we were off for our last hour to Monarch Spur Campground that we have stayed at the past couple of years. We arrived at 1:45 and I went in the office to check in. I told "John" that I had reservations and he had a funny look on his face. I knew then that there was a glitch. Evidently, the "computer" kicked out our reservation. I told him that I had called and talked to him in January and made the reservation. He finally found my name and the site number I had reserved. Unfortunately, that site was taken and there were NO sites available. The place was completely full! He seemed to feel really bad about it and told me of a place down the road that had 1 site available. I asked him
River at Campground
They have river sites at this campground...no overflow site there! about the 4 Seasons campground (it was one that Tom and I had researched). He said he thought it was probably full but would call them if I wanted. I said yes, and he did. They did have a site for us for the next 2 nights. It was 30 amps and full hookups.
So Tom and I were on an adventure. We drove back east on Hwy 50 to the campground. The only site they had was an overflow site. They asked if we wanted to see it first and we opted for that. At first sight, I was like...I don't know if I like this, in my mind...but we were in a pickle, so we took it. It has turned out to be very nice and we would definitely stay here again. I was not too upset about the other campground because it did look more run down and the sites are SO close together. It would not have been the best situation with our camper that has 3 slides. So all worked out for the best! Our Lord sure knows what he is doing!
Tom and I set up camp and
I sat outside to read and listen to thunder in the distance. It did not rain and then it was off to Wal-Mart to restock on some things. Salida is a wonderful town. We plan to go to Bishop Castle tomorrow. I am excited about that. I hope to share with you some wonderful pictures of that adventure! Time to sign off and get dinner ready...leftover lasagna and caesar salad!! YUM, YUM!
Thanks for commenting on my blog. I love reading them!!!

All's well that ends well!
I was scared at first that you were talking about the campground you will be in for a longer period in South Fork, and almost had a heart attack! Glad all worked out for you. Enjoy your travels in that area and keep on blogging!!
