Time Check 0750hrs: Sitting in the IT bunker of the complimentary Nat West Lounge T3 and somewhat frazzled after a hectic get up all topped off with mention of the dreaded "F WORD" by a poker faced BBC Weather Reporter on our telly in Room 92 of the Heathrow Bath Road Hotel.

From the lounge window can make out the familiar runway lights and a few aircraft are lumbering along in the mirk......well at least they are moving!

The "FOG" Word was a bit of a worry all yesterday as well..........However, peering out of the slightly grey net curtains of Room 92 at 0445 I could make out street lights some 1/2 a mile away on the A4......or was it the reflection of our own room lights in the building opposite?..........surely Category II Auto Land in combination with extra bright bulbs in the runway lights would ensure that we were not retracing our steps back to Epsom.........so far so good and the chirpy/camp Check In Staff at Virgin (code sharing with Delta) seemed upbeat about leaving on time......BUT......... I know how they liked to break bad news at these sorts of places.....It goes something like:-

FLIGHT DL1 to JRF........Boarding Delayed by 10 mins
30 mins later............Boarding delayed due to late incoming of aircraft to 1400hrs (was 10:10hrs)
TANNOY announcement in French at 1430hrs............please refer to Customer Service.
15:30 after much stress and angst..............we regret to announce etc...........

Well so far so good......the ever useful "Flight Radar" APP has already provided me with comfort. healthy number of planes landing and taking off.

MISSION: To board Flight DL1 to JFK and then transfer to DL434 to St Jose in Costa Rica. About 13 hours flight time + a 3 hour layover in JFK (involving a helpful and convenient total re-check in procedure of all our luggage).......so we should be well rested by the time we arrive at 2130 Local Time (0400hrs GMT)......a few hours kip in the Von Trapp Motel on the outskirts of St Jose and then off by self drive 4wd to some Nature Lodge perched in a Volcanic Park.........

BIN OVERLOAD......already Cathy has started to load hotel bins to more that their structural capacity. Attempting to bin a small paper receipt from dinner last night, I was met met with a huge obstacle including a rouge beer bottle (Bishops Finger interestingly enough).....more example top follow...

STOP PRESS......REVOLTING FOOD SUCKING NOISES FROM ADJACENT PASSENGER! Just a few feet away (as I type this blog) I am shocked by a horrid sound of noodles being shockingly sucked and squelched through an open "clicking" mouth. It is still going on and I need to move.......the passenger is destined I suspect for somewhere Eastern.........strangely he is also sipping a glass of Prosecco at 0850hrs and makes gentle "KUNG FU" noises every few seconds.

GATE 20!......We are off.....more to follow!
