I was begging for mercy after the on the go days of Vegas. I needed to put the feet up and just chill for a first day of relaxation. We were able to fit in a very lazy sleep in and a breakfast at home! Great start. This is a regular rhythm in 413 The Aspens - very late nights combined with very late mornings because Ian doesn't start work till midday and finishes after 8 pm.

Monday morning we took an easy walk to start the day. We know where we are now and can go out the back gate of The Aspens, down by The Magic Chair, through the Upper Village, down the three flights of stairs, through the tunnel along Fitzimmons Trail and over the creek, cross at the lights on Blackcomb Way and voila, we are on the Village Stroll. This little heads up takes about 12 minutes. So far we have only completed this in daylight because the sun does not set here until 8.40 pm and it isn't truly dark until after 9 pm.

This Monday morning we had a bit of variation and walked to work with Ian and then popped into Mindy's daycare work to meet the staff and children. Ian rides to work so Max (the bike) joined us! Of course the walk was all uphill to Highway 99.

The childcare centre has a series of "rooms" spread out over a number of buildings. Each room has children of different ages. We stopped off in the baby room first. Twelve children and four staff - all the children so happy and receiving such personal attention. Lots of smiles, cuddles, stories and songs. Great routines established. Very caring staff. And a waiting list of over 300! Wow.

Back down to the village and a visit to the Library - Mindy is one of their best customers because before getting her own computer the Library was the only place she could access services to be able to put her resume together and print! An amazing community service that was very busy on our visiting day. And who knows, now that we have had a look at the catalogue, Mindy might even borrow a book! We did borrow a Mad Max DVD for Ian.

Next stop was the Whistler Museum. There was no "fee" but entry was by a $5 per person donation. Go figure. Anyway, it was worth it and I think our Happy Whistler Guide also learnt something about the history of Whistler. It is really a relatively "new" town and of course, the Olympics catapulted Whistler onto the tourist map.

Rounded out the day with a visit to IGA for another grocery shop. Everything has to be carried back up the hill. No worries, Mindy loaded up the backpack, Mac took a couple of bags and just as the rain shower finished we headed home.

It doesn't matter how you spin us around and what direction we come from - the day always ends with a last walk up the hill to The Aspens! Tonight, that walk didn't seem quite so long as we were returning from the bear hunt!

Ian arrived from his ride home from work announcing there was a BEAR under the Magic Chair. We were quick to dress for outdoors to go and take in our first bear sighting. He (or she) had drawn quite a crowd. The bear didn't care, he was head down, grazing on the grass and completely ignored the clicking of the cameras. The bears are out of the dens a little earlier this spring and apparently this little dude is a regular in this spot. Ian had noted he had a yellow tag in his ear indicating that he had been "naughty" at some stage. The bears get two chances - and on their third strike they are definitely "out." Let's hope this little dude keeps his nose out of trouble.

And then, Tuesday was just as perfect. Did some laundry. Washed my hair. Went down into the shared lounge of the Aspens and chatted with some of the staff. Read a book! Totally relaxed and really needed it. Mac on the other hand, went for a therapeutic run back down around Lost Lake and then settled in to an afternoon of gaming.

Dinner at home - a bit of reading and gaming...ready for the adventure of tomorrow....solo....because Ian and Mindy are both at work.

Temperature: 16
Pedometer: 10 254
Bear sightings = 0

Tuesday
Temperature: 14
Pedometer: 1903 plus Mac did a 5.3 km run
Bear Sightings = 1
