A travel day today. We were up in time for Steven, Georgia and I to take a quick walk around the square in Prague before our host, Marek, met us to transport us to the airport. As we came down the (many) stairs to the street, it began to snow - tiny spots at first but quickly becoming huge fluffy flakes. The kids were delirious with excitement, especially G.

It was an interesting drive, as our host (who was about our age) spoke of living as a boy under the communist regime, and how things have changed - making some happy and others less happy.

The flight was uneventful - with German efficiency - and we were excited as we arrived in Hamburg to beautiful sunshine and no snow on the ground. Stan remarked how the farming methods (trees for windbreaks etc) were the same as his father had taught him.

We collected our tour bus - a 9 seater Mercedes van - and headed out of Hamburg (with a little traffic jam on the way). We arrived at our apartment, on the banks of the Elbe, about 40 mins out of Hamburg and 10 mins from Lauenburg, where the Sielaff family came from. The apartment/semi-detached house was wonderful, warm and large - the kids loved the triple bunk bed arrangement but didn't like the stuffed crow or puffer fish!!

Dinner at a nearby restaurant where no English was spoken - these days, we are spoilt because we just logged into the free wifi and translated the menu ourselves - a great tarte flambee for G and I!
