As night turned into day, fingers of light filtered through the raffia walls of our hut. I opened my eyes and came face go face with the biggest spider I have ever seen! He was sitting on the wall looking straight at me, easily the size of my hand. Thankfully between it and me was a mosquito net.
That's pretty much how most mornings begin here on the island of Ko Phra Nang. We were in search of an island off the tourist track and this time we certainty have found one.
Mr Chuoi's huts are the most basic I've ever stayed in. Walls of raffia and a floor of slatted bamboo poles raised three feet off the ground. The biggest problem is that there were four inch gaps between each pole giving the feeling of walking on a ladder and of course if you dropped anything it went straight through to the sandy floor below. Not to mention the fact that every step you took threatened a twisted ankle. I soon learned to walk sideways like a crab!!
A saggy mattress covered by a mosquito net was the only item of furniture, making life difficult to say the least.
This is the price you pay for paradise!!!
Indeed, other than the accommodation, it was paradise, several long golden sandy bays fringed with palm trees and casuarinas trees and barely a soul in sight. Clear water with colourful fish swimming around the rocky outcrops and an odd bit of coral left. Sadly this island was badly affected by the tsunami of 2004 and most of the coral was destroyed, it will take many years to recover.
There are several bungalow operations hidden in the trees all proudly advertising that they are 'eco friendly'. Nothing other than meals cooked by the restaurants are sold here so definitely no junk food.
The interior of the island is one big savannah with wild deer and other animals wandering around.
Once again during our stay here we met several other couples who we became firm friends with and enjoyed socializing together and watching the waiter from the bar performing fireshows.
Another popular night time activity was to walk along the sand and gaze up at the starry sky, no light pollution to spoil the view.
I will leave the photos to describe the beauty and serenity of
this place.

Looks and sounds beautiful, Sheila. I've almost forgotten what the beach and heat feels like! Glad you've found yet another paradise.
