We walk this path.
Footsteps falling: trials, tribulations, successes, defeats.
The greatest question one can ask is, “Who am I?”
We hope every step carries us closer.
True humility comes when we stumble;
True humility is when walls crumble
and are rebuilt.
We walk along these strange foreign paths,
and one hard truth screams within.
We are all human.
Hold the mirror to faces, not trinkets and baubles.
That may be the best way.
For who are we when we lose the things that so shallowly define us?
Strip away all that glitters and perhaps we will begin to understand the nature of quality.
Less truly is more.
In the reflection of that mirror
Therein lies the rub:
The greatest pursuits are born from the heart
not just the need to sustain.
In the end
It is the people – not the toys– that make every step lighter.
Like the blanketing of the first snowfall of winter,
there is comfort in quietness.
There, we learn, there is an
art to being still.
And when that stillness has settled, when all the echoes turn in on themselves,
It is in that moment when there is life in love.
It’s in the details,
the way skin folds around a mouth as a smile is born.
Yet one must not forget the bigger picture.
We still walk this path and it needs to be nurtured.
No longer should we blame the past
and depend on the future;
we must sink our hands in vision and mould the mud.
Let compassion temper the touch.
How have we gotten here?
How can we make it better?
We are what we are,
choice is a luxury; freedom a gift.
Ideals mean nothing if we do not promote the good.
It’s there,
living in those moments
when we hold out a hand,
or smile at a stranger.
If nothing else,
this path has taught us that
empathy is worthy of being a virtue.
When we slow our steps
we begin to
see farther;
it is not about the distance traveled
but the quality of time spent wandering.
