Hands up all those who said Ebay! Wrong, it's Bayen. Only Ken will have got that one right I'm sure.
Having driven past Lesbos (oh stop it), we can now see Kos & another day, will pass Symi & Rhodes. Is anyone following us on a map I wonder?
Decided to leave today as a place in a car park is not our scene despite the beautiful surroundings; it could have been idyllic.... but again the showers were cold, just ones to use post sea swim minus any heads & really, REALLY cold water water off the mountain. We used the shower in Billy so now down to reserve in the tank.
Something disturbing – at about 0830 I went to clean my teeth & saw a young boy in a dog cage, up the way at another little cafe. I signed etc to ask if he was OK to some chap nearby & he said 'tamam, tamam' (OK, OK). Anyway I hung around looking unhappy & was about to walk up to check if he was just playing & a lady came & let him out & led him by the hand to the cafe,
where his ?Dad gave him a roasting, then cuddled him. Was it their equivalent of a naughty step? Who knows, he was no more than 2. Made me feel ill, apart from the fact that I was outnumbered 5 to 1 but there was no way I as going to leave that boy irrespective... May drop an email to my onyx shop man & get the Poliza to see what's what...
Anyway, took the longer route out to avoid the awful road but also to take in the lovely scenery. It put 2 hours on the drive, only 75 miles, but it was well worth it. Near the base of the mountains were power plants (HEP) & the biggest open cast coal mine I have ever seen, it was of epic proportions & made the gigantic earth movers look like Matchbook toys.
There is so much money being ploughed into the infra-structure here & a lot on the road system – old roads being converted into dual carriageways, mountains being cut in two, down mountains with an 8% gradient..with bends. Even with engine braking the brakes were smelling awful, but they do ....might have them checked
out in Cyprus actually. Ken's mechanic will have a gander I'm sure?
Filled up with fuel, the attendant asked if we wanted the water tank filled (with fresh, drinkable water) & gave us 2 free boxes of tissues then offered us tea...is it my face or what?
Went into Fethiye for supplies, then off to camp site. What can I say, I had no idea that Olu Deniz is the equivalent of a Torremolinos, but a lot smaller. Wall to wall bars, restaurants etc Thank goodness it's off season. The site is OK...in a farmyard sort of way, but not a ploughed field. I think it may look better when it's not raining. The site is on the shore of the 'famous' Blue Lagoon (oh no, we know what lives in lagoons). It has a 'funky' restaurant, serves luscious cocktails in 'our fab bar'...Oh dear! At least it's open... but there's no hot water...Billy!
It has a sign near the beach entrance – No trespassing after 7PM
Two vans in now, a VW camper from UK (tiggers-travels.com) & a Swedish, large Bessacar.
The couple in the VW came last night but had too much wine
& stayed on; they are off round the world & are in their 3
rd week & they've 'done'12 countries so far – raising cash for a charity whilst they're at it.
The people in the big van are a 60 odd year old chap & two women of similar age...oh stop it...
