What an amazing last 2 days we have had. We hired a car and despite the rain we headed off to the Daintree. First stop was Mossman Gorge. The rain had stopped and it was pretty hot. This is an incredible place. The beautiful rushing rivers were crisp and clear. It’s a spectacular place, I can’t think of enough superlatives. We managed to get off the board walks and get into the real bush. The trees are incredible, massive, ancient and a site to behold. We found a beautiful creek and I had a paddle. Swimming wasn’t recommended today apparently but I took my shoes off at the large waterhole and had a paddle. It was pretty lucky because I realised I had a leech trying hard to attach itself near my ankle! It had caused some bleeding but my sock had prevented it from taking a deep bite. Lucky! Not a fan of leeches!

After Mossman we headed to Daintree. The ferry was pretty easy and we hit the National Park. The roads aren’t too bad, though pretty windy. First stop was the discovery centre where we went through the tree top walk and the canopy tree house. It

was beautiful. However half way round the skies opened up. We hid under some umbrella ferns but still got absolutely soaked! We managed to get to a shelter and waited the rain out. But that was pretty much the order of the day. Rain, rain and a wee bit more! We still got to see heaps of rainforest, Cow Bay, oh and the Daintree Icecream shop, a must do apparently. Black sapote icecream ??? coconut, wattle seed. All yummy.

We had planned to stay at Cape Tribulation overnight and getting there was an adventure. The roads were soaked and a bit of a worry. Eventually we got there to find our digs were not the best. An expensive back packers, that’s about it! Location absolutely top shelf though. Ancient rain forest and Cape Trib beach, right there.

The weather wasn’t too kind though, I haven't seen so much rain! We played 2 handed UNO (I won!) and had an early night. Next morning the sun was back out and we managed to see the rest of the Daintree National park. We have a massive number of photos, none that will do justice I’m sure. Thortons beach is massive,

The Daintree ferry - looked at the weather!
Cooper creek, stunning, Myall beach walk goes through some ancient areas. It’s a real treasure and we are very lucky to have seen it.

We eventually headed back to Port Douglas. We were VERY weary and unfortunately we found our Bago door was stuffed and wouldn’t open. 4 Hours later, the Racv man and the locksmith had the door open. The lock is stuffed though. Looks like we will have to head into Cairns with the Bago to get it fixed. It’s currently being held closed with an occy strap! Sadly we will have to say goodbye to Port Douglas a day early, but there’s not much we can do about that… All part of the adventure!

wish I was there
Very, very seriously jealous of your day or 2 at Cape Trib. Had a very scary experience with a spider at the Discovery Centre, looking all round the web for a spider and then focused in front of my nose and it was about 6 inches dead in front of me. The expletives followed. I agree there is not much in the way of accommodation at Cape Trib. Pain about your door, guess it's just one of those things. Do you think someone had tried to jimmy it open? Have fun, Karen

you'd be welcome!
Hey Karen, I think we saw the brother of your spider still living at Cape Trib! We had walked passed it 3 or 4 times before we SAW it! Eeek! No, the door had been gradually wearing and chewing up the plastic washer thingy apparently. Still using temporary fix as no one could help us in Cairns. Might have to wait till Darwin now! It'll be fine...
