My next un-expected flight took me to Rome, via Milan. We had a short stop in Milan for some of the passengers to disembark, and then we continued on to Rome where we had a 24hr layover. On that particular flight, as we were nearing Rome, we hit an unexpected case of extreme turbulance at which point the Captain came over the PA to announce "Cabin Crew, take your seats". When given this command, Cabin Crew must stop everything, sit down immediately and fasten seat belts. No matter what you're doing or where you are. Even if it means sitting on the lap of a passenger. Fortunately I was able to sit down in an empty seat, but as I buckled up and looked around the cabin to ensure my colleagues were all doing the same thing, I saw one of the female crew sitting cozily on the lap of a very surprised looking man. No doubt he was the envy of many other male passengers. The turbulance eventually subsided, and we were instructed to resume our duties.

Rome itself is a stunning city. It was my first taste of Italy, and what a beautifully historical introduction it was. We checked in the hotel, quickly changed, and headed for the Colosseum. From there we walked through the streets of Rome admiring the beautiful, old architecture. We passed by Il Vottoriano - The Viktor Emmanuel II Monument, and ended up at the Trevi Fountain. We then went to a little Italian Cafe near the Fountain and had pizza. It was a very pleasant evening.

Our route home from Rome took us via Nice, where we stopped just long enough to see inside the airport and purchase a few postcards. We then returned home to Dubai.
