Awesome way to start the day!Day 8 - Fort William to Pitlochry
Sorry guys but the hotel at Pitlochry was a bit dickey and we could not send out the blog.
As a side note we are enjoying the Scottish TV shows, Pointless, Gogglebox & The Chase.
The rain is still with us again today. Pictures become extremely challenging because for some reason the wind is always blowing from the direction that I want to point the camera. On this trip i have cleaned the lenses at least a dozen times per day.
OK - out of Fort William after a breakfast of parritch with WHISKEY! GOD I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!
We are going to head thru some more rugged parts of the highlands. We did find some more rugged roads that are one lane, no guard rails, no straight sections and plenty of animals!
One nasty sight here is the clear cut forests. What a horrible way to produce lumber. We have been told that they will be changing their practices here but it won't come soon enough.
We visited Glencoe and Ballacullish again. This time we found the visitor center which described the landscape as well as
the history. Of course this is the massacre of the Macdonalds by the Campbells. Well not exactly true. The command to commit the slaughter came from King William and the poor captain who had to put the command into practice was a Campbell.
We had lunch at the Claggaig Inn, chicken pot pie & a boar & haggis burger. The colour in this area is much better because there are more hardwoods in this area.
Back in the car and head to Pitlochry and the Scotlands Hotel. Our room is in the old Bank of Scotland building. No wonder my knees are killing me, there aren't any lifts in these old hotels.
We did try to go to Edradour, our favourite distillery but it was CLOSED!!! WTH!!! Not even the store was open. OMG!!!
Well back into town for a couple of hours of shopping. The liquor store in town did have Edradour whiskeys. Oh Thank God!
Dinner tonight is at The Auld Smiddy, a building that used to be used as a black smiths forge. While the food was good it is like eating at a restaurant run by the soup nazi.

Tomorrow off to Stirling Castle.

Russell's mussels. Ahh the Auld Smiddy. Wish the rain would stop for ya. Glad someone finally invented a haggis burger. Brilliant. About time too.
