Love that rice Pudding!Love that rice Pudding!Love that rice Pudding!

Wendy had this look when she was eating the Chocolate fondant in Aix two years ago, too.
July 11,2014 - Lunch at L’Ebauchoir - You might remember my mentioning two weeks ago that Wendy was so impressed with the restaurant that she wanted to come back for the Cherry Clafoutis they serve as their dessert du jour on Friday, so I made rezzers and came back today.

We had the prix fixe menu with two items, and found out that we could substitute the clafouti for the regular menu for an extra couple of Euros. Wendy ordered the fish, a sea bass, for her main course, and I had Beouf en brochette with vegetables. Wendy’s fish came with (according to her) a great Calamata olive sauce/puree and my brochette had a bit of pesto on it. I was particularly impressed with mine as usually brochettes are done with tough meat and never cooked enough for my liking (I can be a cretin at times…)but even though it was a little underdone for my liking, the meat was so tender that I had no problems…

I got to talking to our waiter/maitre d’ who was one of 2 owners, so I had to tell him about the cookbook I have with their signature recipe, the caramel rice

pudding, and how, years ago, Kevin and I had come to see if I was cooking it properly. I also explained that we had been back many times since then, and had brought people who also come back, Yadda, yadda, yadda. We ordered the clafouti but, although it was very delicious, it wasn’t as good as the rice pudding and told the owner. I also discussed what kind of rice to use, etc, as I do make this at home regularly. We must have made an impression on him as he went and talked to the chef and gave me the rice info. AND THEN, he brought us two servings of the rice pudding, on the house! EAT YOUR HEARTS OUT KEVIN AND ED.... I put this up there with being given the terrine of it a couple years ago…I don’t know how Wendy and I did it, but we finished it, and were grateful we hadn’t had starters. (but we ARE professionals...don't try this at home...)

All in all it was a lovely lunch, and after thanking the owner profusely, I said we would see him in Sept 2015 on our next trip…If you ever get to Paris,

The cherries were fresh: I found a pit in one of mine.
