Gaudi's Barcelona
Outside of Casa Battlo Today was Gaudi Day! Took a walk from our unit down the beautiful Passeig de Gracia to Casa Battlo, an amazing house designed by Gaudi for the Battlo family. Not sure how the builders managed, as there were virtually no straight lines in the entire place...wonderful curves, tilework, glasswork & timberwork all evoking an underwater theme. The rooftop chimneys were jaw-dropping and the furniture designed by Gaudi brilliant. We then had a stroll down La Rambla...very touristy but fun nevertheless, opening out at the end into the Plaza Catalunya. A walk and lunch from the La Boqueria Market with its delicious array of foodstuffs then a train trip and walk to the Gaudi-designed Park Guell in intense heat, exhausted us completely. Headed back to the apartment for a shower & rest before embarking on our final and most important leg, the Sagrada Familia, including a tour of the Passion Tower. Words cannot describe this inspiring place & photos do not do it justice! Avery special experience for our last night in Barcelona.
