Before leaving Colorado Springs the Aqua Hot system went out, it runs the hot water in the RV. It was a great opportunity to reminisce being at my grandma and grandpa Grossman's house in Chokio, MN back in the 60's. They didn't have any hot water in the house, in fact they used the old pump at the kitchen sink and heated the water on the stove. So that's what I did to wash the dishes. We also went over to the camp showers and bought a 4 minute shower for $1.00. It started out as cold as in the RV but soon warmed up. I've never had to consider, "how long of a shower do I take?"
July 3 we stayed for just an overnight at a KOA in Casper, WY. On our way we saw a huge storm in the distance and pulled off in a parking area to wait it out. When we started again there was an open space right between the dark clouds for us to pass through.
On July 4 we headed to Billings, MT. A new state for both of us. We went 40 miles before we saw the first sign of
any human life. An old out barn maybe for the cattle in the winter, not a house for another 30 miles. I only imagined the winters when I saw the snow drift fences along the hills. Prairies and rolling hills and deer and antelope. Beautiful, peaceful, serene.
As soon as we crossed the Montana border we passed the sign that said "Welcome to Crow Nation". We remained in Indian Territory over an hour.
Just after noon we arrived safe and sound at the "World's 1st KOA". Another rainbow greeted us that evening. We have been here ever since and will leave Monday morning early. We have an 8:30 appointment at an RV repair place to try to get the steps repaired or at least retracted for the rest of the trip. This repair throws us off our original schedule by a day, but the campgrounds are able to accommodate the change.
This KOA has a lot going on, a pool, hot tub and putt-putt golf. There was a band on the 4th that we stayed and listened to. There is ice cream at the office every night. They have an outdoor grill called Pistol Pete's that has
a huge outdoor grill and serves camp breakfast of eggs, pancakes and bacon, and steaks or fish for dinner.
Yesterday we went by the Chamber of Commerce to see what Billings had to offer. We will be coming back someday with more time to explore the area that's for sure. We decided on a tour of Pictograph Cave State Park. It was a 3/4 mile walk into the remnants of the old caves from thousands of years ago. I can't fathom it and the way of life for the Native Americans. We went to lunch and ran errands. Sat out last evening and rode bikes. Leisel did great in the bike basket.
Today has been chore day. I washed 3 loads of clothes, but Patrick has been the hero of the day fixing the Aqua Hot, saving us lots of $$$. Yay, hot showers for church tomorrow. We improvised a salad dressing carafe to pour in the boiler anti freeze into the system.
Pat's bigggg birthday is tomorrow. He is officially on SS.
Take care y'all. Blessings.
