. . . a 5 1/2 hour emergency room visit and a $5,000 bill. Actually, I'm not sure about the bill, since that won't have arrived yet, but the first part was entirely true. He wasn't feeling well by the end of their day at Disneyland yesterday, but we thought he could drink a ton of fluids, sleep some, get cool and be fine. He looked like crap, though, and his temperature climbed rather than dropped, so I insisted he go in. He's fine, and that's his story to tell, but it was an interesting visit.
While waiting, I watched a bunch of episodes of Call of the Wildman on Animal Planet. It's about a Kentucky guy who grew up catching turtles and now gets called to catch all sorts of other critters. He was the least interesting part; the patients were much more entertaining. Two women came in and dropped off a pregnant woman. They later returned, asking for her, but couldn't remember her name, but were let back anyway. A guy about my age came in, apparently complaining of a toothache. The doc refused to give him whatever specific drug he wanted, but offered an antibiotic. The guy
apparently wanted to check with someone in the waiting room, but then just walked out. A clearly disturbed man came running out of the ER into the waiting room ranting about something, still wearing a hospital gown. A nurse ran out behind him yelling at the security guard that he was on a hold and needed to be stopped. The security guy seemed completely confused and let him walk out the front door, at which point three other nurses ran after him, tackled him and carried him back into the ER. It was pretty entertaining.
After the short night, we decided to sleep in and make it a relatively short day. It took quite a while to get out of the LA area, but Mom got to see the Hollywood sign, which we had missed a couple days ago. We took 101 most of the way, stopping at the first state beach we saw for a little splashing, visiting La Conchita, a town always in danger of being covered by a landslide, but where there was new construction occurring, for a geocache, and Shell Beach for some more beautiful views and another cache. We saw our first views of
Brave Boys
This is a far cry from their original experiences with oceans. The first time Liam saw a wave he cried and wailed and was completely freaked out. Of course, he was about 18 months old. Cole was about the same. vineyards, many of them. We got in early to King City, with two rooms so that Dad could get a good night's sleep. We had dinner at Stravaganza, which was very, very good. They had a wide selection of options, huge portions. The owner even came out and greeted us and thanked us for coming. It would be well worth a stop.

I'm sure you are right about the emergency room bill...
In March my son and I were in China when he became ill and ended up in the emergency room for 6 hours. The total cost of the emergency room , including all tests, medicine, IV and 5 doctors including the chief doctor and the heads of several departments was less that $30. Next time get sick in China!
