Today Brian’s and Swen’s birthday, happy Birthday. We won’t forget their birthday any time soon. Clayborn’s is just around the corner and I’m somewhere in there.
We get up and have a flash breakfast Kirsten is ready revving the engine. I’m climbing in my seat with a piece of toast with jam as she’s pulling out the drive.
We tour the Barolo area villages and vineyards. We visit another WI MU, Wine Museum in Barolo. We stop at numerous cathedrals, Bea remarks, if you seen one you’ve seen all. Hmmmmmm
We have lunch in a sleepy village of Cherasaco at the intersection of Hwy 50 and Hwy 17-92. Yea you get the picture. Traffic everywhere. We have antipasto and when we’re almost done Bea says, hey they’re famous for snails. Kirsten says order some. So Bea does, they bring them to the table, they are so proud of there snails. I’m looking at them thinking NO WAY. Bea and Kirsten dive in, I’m looking at them, you’re eating that. It’s delicious try some, I take the smallest one and it took every muscle in my throat to get it down, I then drank a liter of water to
clear any taste.
Thank goodness lunch is over can we continue on with locating vineyards and tastings. Then we stop in a few wineries and taste their wine each are give us a small description. We then pull into the Damilano Winery; we walk in right behind about a dozen Germans. Our hostess Marsha speaks very good English and very little German. So Kirsten & Bea spoke with the Germans and kept things moving. Me I just enjoyed the wine. It was great.
Kirsten and Bea had our innkeeper get us reservations at a traditional Italian family restaurant. We go back to our room for a nap, our reservations are for 8 PM for and it’s an 8 coarse Italian family dinner.
Around 7:30 we drive to the restaurant, Kirsten is thinking we’ll just sit around and enjoy the restaurant. Not! The door is locked and we’re the first to arrive. At 8 PM the door is open and there is 25 plus folks waiting to get in. We are greeted by the owner and he immediately knows it’s us from his friends inn. He seats us and starts explaining the meal. Bea and Kirsten are both
hanging on every word that rolls off his lips. Hey I’m hungry can we get some bread! Si Si one momento.
The meal was very good and lasted over three and half-hours. Each coarse was more delicious than the previous, we didn’t leave hungry.
We are all ready for bed by the time we make it back to our room.
It’s 12:30 now Kirsten and Bea are both asleep and I’m not far behind.
Tomorrow we begin our return trip to Zurich. The wind down has begun. We all know it but no one wants to acknowledge it. I guess I’ll have to pop that bubble tomorrow.
Good Night John Boy
