Perfect day
The weather was perfect! Bright sunshine, a high blue sky with fluffly white clouds and the temperature hovering around 80f. What more could we ask for except a nice long walk in the Sarka Valley and that is exactly what we decided to do. After church and lunch and nap time, the four of us meet and headed down the hill to the beginning of the trail. We altered our plans for a LONG walk since Andrew was just getting over a nasty head cold and we had started a little later in the day than planned. So, Nancy and I with two friends, Jim from Glasgow, Scotland and Andrew from England were 'off on an afternoon stroll' . The trail through the Sarka Valley is a popular place on weekday evenings and all day Saturday and Sunday. Hikers and bicyclists share the trail. You can scarcely believe you are still in the city because there is a rather dense forest of both deciduous and evergreen trees through which the main trail along the stream goes. To your left and right are many side trails that go to small villages outside of town. If you have all day
for your walk or ride, you can spend many hours and not exhaust the hiking possibilities. Alongside the trail at least one farmer has decided to make some money from the people who use the trail. He has a small firepit beside the stream and sells all sorts of sausages for people to cook over the fire. Most of the way is an easy walk but there are several small hills beside the stream where the path goes gently up and down. However if you want more exercise or adventure there are steep cliffs toward the end of the valley. There is one section that bikers and walkers find a bit tricky if they meet as the trail becomes quite narrow with the creek on one side and a vertical rock cliff on the other side.
Temptation
Remember we were going to go on a 'long' hike? We had planned at first to walk the entire Valley trail and go to a small pub that Jim knew about in the community near the end. But the day was quite warm for Prague and Andrew was not really over his headcold. So....... About two and a half
miles up the valley there is a nice restaurant. When we saw it and all the folks having a good time sitting out in the sun eating and drinking, we were tempted beyond resistance and gave in. Though the only way to get there is either by hiking or by bicycle, business was booming when we arrived. We waited in a semi-long line to buy our drinks. Nancy and Andrew each ordered a
large glass of tonic water, Jim a beer and Bill his favorite, a Kofola, a Czech cola soft drink not to be confused with Coke or Pepsi. How lucky could we be? Just as we walked out, we spotted a newly deserted table for 4 which was nicely in the shade except for one small bit of sun that only stayed in one person's eyes for about 10 minutes before it disappeared behind the building. We sat and talked, relaxed, rested and thoroughly enjoyed each other's company till all the drinks were gone and we were ready to head back to our rooms.
Bliss
A lovely day, a pleasant forest path beside a beautiful steam, good companions, good drink and a relaxing afternoon.

A Perfect Sunday Afternoon
Sounds like you walked before 4-5 miles round trip. That may not be long by some standards, but it sounds like a sufficient distance on a warm sunny afternoon, especially since a beverage break was included! Nice to connect with friends from England and Scotland, too, in what sounds like a lovely Czech place to be. Common ground for kindred spirits!
