Take a girl out of Hong Kong and put her in the suburbs of Sydney & you make a very relaxed holiday for her!
That's exactly what I did for my Easter holiday this year. I went to visit a very good friend who recently moved back to her home country down under with her husband and baby. After the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong and the busy life I lead in HK....Sydney was the perfect break!
Blue skies, sunshine and wide open spaces - what a difference the simple things make! I woke up and sat by the pool with a coffee and a book, perfectly content. I was not the best tourist, having been to Sydney before, but I was happy just to hang out in the suburbs and live the suburban life for a week! I did venture into town twice and enjoyed the shopping and of course a walk over the Sydney harbour bridge. A trip to Bondi completed my trip!
The ability to go for a morning run with a view over "the bush" and just the novelty of being driven in a car again actually
made me happy! The sunsets over the bush, and neighbourly chats...just a few things that a Hong Kong city life doesn't always allow for.
It's such an easy flight from Hong Kong, just an overnight trip and not much time difference. I can definitely see myself hopping over now and then, just to visit good friends.
It's good to remember...as much as I do love to travel & see the world...at the end of the day, people and friends are so important, and you can't put a price on a good friendship! (Especially when they have a very cute new baby as well!)

Burbs and birds!
Love Sydney... and love escaping for the weekend too... so nice to read your blog Jen! The colourful bird is a Rainbow Lorikeet and we saw them all over Oz too - I know it's geeky but I actually bothered to learn the names :-) Looking forward to seeing you in July xxx
