Leaving Bangkok.

Wednesday 7th.

Today we move north. Sleeper train is booked for an 18.10 departure so time to kill before making our way to the station.

After packing the bags we grabbed a late breakfast before hailing a Tuk Tuk and headed for the local flower markets. An riot of colours unfolded as we walked through the many streets culminating in a street dedicated to making enormous floral displays, some approx 6’ x 3’, stunning.

After an hour of strolling around it was a case of mad dogs and Englishman in the midday sun so decided to head back to the hotel. After a couple of failed attempts at securing a tuk tuk we eventually flagged one down who kindly took us to the nearest public pier to catch the river ferry, it was worth the 40p we paid him to save the walk.

Now decided the only way to travel is on the ferry, cheap, 30p a trip and a cooling breeze plus interesting views along the way. We hopped off at stop number 12 and walked through to the hotel, pausing at the street stalls for a snack or two. Still a little hungry so dropped in to a cafe for Pad Tai and a cold beer and where entertained by two girls and a fella who where mending potholes created after the flood. The girls were the labours mixing the cement and lugging the slabs while the fella sat on his arse pointing up!.

Oh, nearly forgot the night before we took a trip down to Pat Pong, red light area of Bangkok purely out of curiosity!. A few lady boys about and had a quick peep at a show but all in all a bit sad and the usual rip off for tourists and alike.

Any way back to today, following lunch we took advantage of a final swim at the hotel, stocked up with sandwiches for the journey and caught a cab to the station, £6.00 ouch.

Settled on the train now with Sue reading, me blogging and Emma and Mike drinking Chang.

That’s all for now.

Woolverstones Revenge
Hi Jon/Sue, Sounds wonderful. Here not quite so hot, in fact its cold and wet, strong winds due in on Tuesday, then rain,no sign of the end of winter yet.Flowers in Bangkok look stunning, as I look out of the office I can't actually see any here, but thats hardly surprising given the time of year. The water taxi was late again, well actually there isn't one and the street vendors are short in supply. Marina busy with lifting and there are a whole host of moves within the company, but good news - you still have a job. I'll send an EMail when the dust settles and keep you up to speed. Keep in touch and enjoy. TB
