Singapore Harbour
The Harbour area lit up Singapore – The journey begins..............
Left Ipswich bound for Heathrow via National Express. A good cost affective / comfortable service all in all and not much longer if any if journeyed by car, well done NE.
Booking in through Heathrow fairly smooth until Sue go’s through customs and they pull her to one side along with Spencer the T/Bear who unfortunately was detected as having traces of explosive material on him! Thank you Ben and Lisa, you know who you are. After more checks we are free to go but feel that every security camera is watching are every move.
After the usual mooch around the departure shops we board our flight and for the next ten or so hours where pampered by the very attractive stewardesses. An endless supply of fine dining and drinks where bought to us with a smile, god knows what business or first class must be like!
Landed at Changi Airport at 14.30 local time all safe and sound and made our way through arrivals, collected our bags and boarded the MRT link within 15/20 mins, so so efficient. The MRT took us to Bugis Station, about 25mins travelling then a 10 min walk to the Hotel. Humidity was high and we were dripping somewhat at the reception desk when booking in. Obviously used to this as the clerk handed over iced orange juice and a box of tissues, bit like a UK Travel Lodge really!
After being Shown to our very exclusive 10x 8 room we ventured out back to the MRT and made our way to the Marina area of the city. My first impressions, absolutely stunning. The size, shape and design of the buildings around the harbour are very impressive, no expense spared. As dusk arrived and the lights came on all around we were treated to a spectacular site.. I hope my pics do it justice.
We walked around the Marina Bay Hotel complex for a while taking in the very expensive designer outlets, food hall and general atmosphere. Attempted to access the roof to look at the famous infinity pool and view across the harbour but where turned away at the top. Definitely residents only, way out of my league. The 48 floor lift ride was impressive though.
Had quick snack of spring rolls then headed back to the Hotel passing on the way the tallest tower crane one has ever seen, must be all of 55 floors high. Defo wouldn’t want that climb in the morning.
Wednesday
Up a little late today, dose of the jet lag i believe. Had Breakfast then out for hike around the area where the hotel sits, Little India, and then on the MRT to China Town to take in the delights of the local markets e.g. Toads in buckets ect. Afternoon spent wandering the Harbour District before jumping on the MRT once again back to the bright lights of the Marina and a look around the elegant Raffles Hotel. All very grand but ever so pricey Once darkness fell we walked down to the Singapore Flyer, the equivalent of the London Eye but larger. Spectacular views from the top across town and harbour. Called in for a Madras curry on the way back to the hotel then collapsed from walking exhaustion.
Thursday
Decided to visit the Singapore Zoo today. Really good place to go with easy / clear views of all the animals. Hope my photos do it some justice.
Adrian, you be able to relate to one or two of the pics when you see them, think V Fest.
Friday
Today we leave Singapore. A fine place indeed, spotlessly clean, friendly people, stunning architecture but a little wet. If you have visited you will know what I mean.
Flew into Bangkok and enjoyed an entertaining Taxi ride from the airport to our Hotel. Didn’t actually make it to the Hotel as we got lost and the driver left us somewhere near which was nice of him! The backpackers instinct kicked in and we or should i say Sue’s eagle eye spotted the hotel. Booked in, quick shower and straight out for some lunch, Thai salad for me, lush and spring role for Sue washed down with a large Chang beer. The trip has begun.
After consisted of a dip in the roof top pool plus a little snooze for me and some blog catch up. Out for supper at 21.00 with Green curry for me, lush, and Satay sticks and salad for Sue.
Can’t wait for breakfast!!!
Thats all for now,
