Last weekend in Singapore was great. I visited Sentosa island on Saturday. It is completely man-made and a complete tourist zone, but I enjoyed the sun and sand nonetheless. It is beautifully done as you will see when I can eventually load photos.

I won't be able to load any photos today but I'll post some tomorrow. The internet connection is not great at this hostel so I don't want to use up all my internet time loading photos. Anyway...back to Sentosa.

It was a hot day, somewhere in the range of 34 degrees celcius with the usual crazy level of humidity. I did not stay long on the beach, maybe 20 minutes before all my sunscreen melted off and I felt like I was on the sun. So, I grabbed my gear and visited a few of the attractions. First, I went to "images of Singapore", a museum about the history and cultures in Singapore. Very interesting. Then, I went to the Merlion display. The merlion is a mythical figure said to be half lion and half mermaid. I'm a big fan of the merlion.

I decided to take the cable car from the island to Mt. Fraser. It was great until we stopped half-way for some reason. The winds were strong and the car was very far up. Not so fun to bouce around in a cable car miles off the ground.

On Sunday I went to the nightime safari at the zoo. I loved it! It was very much worth the hour-long bus and train commute from the apartment. There are not many photos because they keep all the displays very dimly lit. I chose to walk the pathways and see the animals after taking a short tour on the tram. The animals seemed so close. At one point I was less than a foot away from a bat and we stood and looked at each other for a bit. Call me crazy, but I thought it was cute.

Now I'm in Brisbane. I arrived bleary-eyed yesterday after an overnight flight from Singapore. On the plane I was seated beside a man from Spain who was so happy to have someone who could speak Spanish to talk to. He knew no English at all. So, I helped him order meals, find a TV show to watch and get through immigration. A busy night. Arrived at the hostel at 8 am and was checked-in early by the nice guy at the desk who saw how tired I was (check in time is not supposed to be until 1 PM).

After a long nap and lunch I explored the city. Along the river is beautiful and downtown is a nice walking area. I meant to get over to the botanical gardens but it got dark so I sat to have an Australian beer and people-watch on Queen street (a pedestrian-only shopping/cafe area in the heart of downtown) instead.

Today a visit to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary was on the agenda. I met a girl on the bus from England who was also going to the sanctuary on her own so we toured together. The sanctuary was great. The highlights were cuddling a koala (I'm such a tourist) and feeding the kangaroos. After we got back to Brisbane, my new friend Wila and I went to a late lunch at a patio cafe on the river. A very busy day, again.

More from Brisbane tomorrow...

Now that would be my worst nightmare. Half way up a mountain swinging in a cable car. Sounds like you have a wonderful time. So enjoying hearing about the sights you have seen and the people you are meeting. Oh but Marcela I have seen a bat and I am going to call you crazy. It was not cute! I am headed for the lake today. beautiful here but not 34. Will show your blogs to grandpa. Hugs and stay safe.

Wow
Hi Marsi This is a great trip for you and I am glad you are really getting out to see all the sites. Got a call from Greg a couple days ago wishing me a Happy Birthday which was great to get. Miss Cally is really looking forward to our morning outings and occassionally I take her out for a short walk about midnite when the streets are deserted and this is a result of Mom taking Luna out after dinner so Cally gets to go as well but at a later time. All is well here so keep enjoying your holiday. Love Dad
