Saturday 11th December 2010 (Queenstown) Starting the day with a hike to the top of a mountain with the Irish girls - Jenny, Rachel & Rita - we thought it would take about 40 minutes, but the never ending uphill battle took more like 2 hours! Our eyes were treated at the top to stunning views over Queenstown and the surrounding countryside with the Shotover River and more mountains in the distance.
Had any of us had the inclination (and some money left) we could have gone lugeing (although it was far tamer here than in Rotorua) or taken a bungy jump high over the city, but we were more than happy, after an adrenalin filled month, to simply sit back and take it all in.
In the afternoon we went to the famous “Ferg-Burger” – Richard was contemplating adding chips, but his burger was more like a meal in a bun the size of a dinner plate, and Joanne struggled to get through her falafel burger with pineapple, with most of it residing on her lap!
Just a couple of drinks at Base and World Bars – with a pledge to find somewhere else to go
the following night as we can’t escape the Kiwi-bus fraternity here.
Sunday 12th December 2010 (Queenstown) We had been told time and again that Queenstown is adrenalin junkie heaven, and it is, but after adrenalin packed month, with a new exciting activity almost every day, we were all worn out and would have been happy to be sitting on our beach in Fiji a few days early. Instead, we settled for sitting on the grass by the river near to a bar where a guy & his guitar provided the perfect musical accompaniment... it was a nice sunny day and later on our way back we found Cara & Mercedes who had also opted for some time in the shade and we joined them while they finished their beers and the sun went down around us.
It seemed that evening we were destined to end up in World Bar again as the whole gang were heading there for a pub quiz... We split into two teams and the other half won, sharing their winnings (several jugs of beer) with the rest of us, but we were all so tired that we ran off to bed as soon as they were finished.
Monday 13th December 2010 (Queenstown) Another sunny day chilling by the river we stayed at TYC bar for a couple of hours with some light snacks for lunch and a couple of jugs of Pimms on special.
We considered doing the jet boat that Joanne had won, but even with a 2-4-1 voucher it was still a lot of money, and New Zealand had totally wiped us out.
In the evening there was Karaoke at Altitude. Joanne sang, along with the Irish girls and we couldn’t get Gad down! At the end of the evening they announced that Joanne had won – the prize was a 2-4-1 skydive in either Queenstown or Rotorua, a massive prize considering the cost, but we couldn’t use it as we were leaving early the following morning so Joanne gave it to Ross, a Welsh guy from our bus for free, he did do a pretty good rendition of Delilah so we figured he deserved it!
