Rental car = exlpore time. Viva International District! Also known as chinatown - but there are so many other asian cultures represented cant be Chinatown
Wikipedia has a great description/history of the International District. http://wikitravel.org/en/Seattle/International_District Lots of history in seattle with a clash of all cultures here. Based on current events seemed like a good place to visit.
Perfect place for me to go get lost. I like to travel by getting lost and seeing what I can find. Each block seems to be it's own culture from Asia. Vietmanese, China and Japan (by way of huge shopping center) are the most respresented.
The Danny Woo Community park is where locals can do small gardens. Seems to be common in big cities and even madison has a couple.
I got lost in the large new Japanese Market and book store - its easy to be amused in these places. I had to have a bubble tea as well - something about all the flavors to choose from, gigantic straws with tapioca.
Off to find Tamarind Tree in little Saigon. This is a diamond in the rough and is being 'found' and non-stop busy. Its Vietmamense proviencial
- which is essentially french influenced. I poured the following down my gullet longing to go back for more... tamarind martinini, spring roll with peanut sauce and perfect combination of mint/basil, Banh Koht - Tumeric Coconut rice cake with shrimp and rice paper on side (make your own spring rolls including soaking in your own hot water), beer 33 (brewed by Fosters in Vietnam), Kem Dua Nuong - Roasted Coconut ice cream. All this for under 30 bucks - one of the best meals in a long time. Plus finding it added to the experience.
