Starting to get back to civilisation, traffic, traffic lights and all that jazz, but we find another nice camp site north of town and right on the beach, ok 30m walk! After our usual ‘get your bearings tour’ via the Tourist Information we have a committee meeting and plan our next few days.

We had some fun as we left Geraldton ♪”

Greenough Village is first on the list and despite the inclement weather we enjoy a couple of hours wandering round this historic village. The hot lunch and red wine fortified us to press on to the next stop, The Hampton Arms. This must have the smallest bar we’ve ever seen, together with the larger than life owner all the way from Crewe. Two red wines ordered, all bar emptied the bottle! It was a great little place, partly famous for it’s thousands of second hand books for sale plus a room full of junk, sorry, bric-a-brac. We left neither empty handed, several books and 2 talking plastic VB dolls, one Ian Botham, the other Merv Hughes, in celebration of The Ashes. Here are some quotes, guess who is who…..

 “The tabloids are going to love this”
 “I love a warm beer, and plenty of it”
 “Can somebody handball me A VB”

Question: look we know there are thousands of kilometres of sandy beaches all around Australia, but why do some states, WA in particular, allow the driving of 4WD vehicles on them in the built up areas? When a walk from the car to water’s edge is no more than 30m, just how lazy do we want to get?
Moan over

Picnic packed and we’re off for a scenic drive to Northampton and a wander round before heading to the seaside town of Horrocks. This place had to be a stop for us as our brother-in-law’s (well that’s what we call him) name is Horrocks. The seaside town of Horrocks was named after a convict, say no more, so we stole him a few items from the local store! It pains us to say it, but it is actually quite a nice place….

Well that just about brings us to the end of our stay in Geraldton Oh Geraldton. Two other things of note were a short guided tour of the Cathedral of St Francis Xavier designed and built by the famous Monsignor John Hawes, who, before joining the priesthood, was an architect in England, and the HMAS Sydney Memorial commemorating the loss of 645 lives in 1941 just off the coast at Shark Bay. We are sure there are lots of other things to see and do in Geraldton, but Steve & Debby just couldn’t be arsed, so we decided to pack up and leave for Jurien Bay, where the wind blows stronger and the flies grow bolder, and The Pinnacles stand around waiting to be photographed.

Geraldton oh Geraldton
Crikey Steve, and all the time I thought it: "Ormiston oh Ormiston, Can't you hear the termites gnawing" or was it "Ormiston oh Ormiston, Can't you feel the midges biting" Now I'm getting confused Cheers Frank
