In Ouchy
We started out from Stuttgart around 11:00 AM and headed south for our 4+ hour drive to the town of Lausanne which is on the southern side of Lake Geneva. Lausanne is in the French speaking part of Switzerland. About 1/4 of Switzerland is French speaking, 1/2 German, a small percentage Italian and the balance a local language.

Lake Geneva is beautiful, with the Alps srrounding much of the lake. Unfortunately, the weather while we were there was overcast and hazy, somewhat muting the spectacular alpine views. The town center is an area with buildings dating to medieval times still in existence.

The evening we arrived, we took a walk down to the Ouchy section of the city, which is the lakefront. We stopped at very nice little outdoor cafe, the MGM, and had a nice dinner there. We're getting a little better communicating. The 4 years of French I had in high school, albeit 43 years ago, helped a bit with reading signs and rudimentary conversation.

The next day we walked to the medieval section of town, visiting the Cathedral de Lausanne and the Chateau Marie, a medieval castle. The Cathedral dates back to the 1100's.

After visiting the old section of town, we took the Metro back to Ouchy where we decided to take a 3 hour boat tour of the lake. It took us to the town of Vevey, which Charlie Caplin loved and to the town of Montreux, which is famous for an annual jazz and blues festival. Montreux is where Stevie Ray Vaughn & Douvble trouble were booed before they had a hit song. They came back a couple years later and were wildly applauded.

We had a very nice young waitress on the boat named Camille or Kammi. She is a film student in the LA area. We kept her busy bringing us beer and wine and gave her more than a few laughs.

Tomorrow we head to Munich.

Switzerland
This was such an enjoyable boat ride down the ''real'' Lake Geneva, with the Alps backdrop. Bob was inspired to pen many tunes for his upcoming CD release. The French speaking of the locals was a nice change of pace.
