This is it, our last entry for the Summer school holidays 2010! What a summer! The best part is that we are already planning the next one. But let's come back to Luxembourg.
Leslie and Ma'ri birthday days are next to each other....right at the end of the holidays. So it's not specially that easy to organise big parties. For Leslie we found a solution, it's actual birthday party with all his friends is held the first Friday of his school year...a good way to launch his social calendar, isn't it!
But back to our entry. We woke up pretty early for the drive from Milano to Luxembourg. First stop, getting the 40 swiss franc tax to cross the country in a reasonnable amount of time. It is also the opportunity for Leslie to count the number of tunnels we crossed to go through Switzerland....and there are a lot of them. We stopped just before lunch in Zurich for a drink with Ivy. Ivy is the best friend of Ma'ri back to the time she was living in Shanghai...now Ivy is in Zurich, so we stop to say hey, kind of logic!
Our next stop was for a
late lunch. I did stop on my way south last year in Colmar for few hours with Leslie and Tiffany. The town, another "small Venice" is another little jewel. This time we were more in a hurry to reach Luxembourg not too late. You remember, it's Leslie birthday, and his presents are waiting for him at his Grandparents place! So this is the priority!! We did stop in Colmar for a "tarte flambee". It could look like a pizza, but it is not a pizza. The toppings here are cream, sour cream, onions and bacon plus cheese...nice, as long as you don't over indulge too often.
We made it to Luxembourg, sunny sky...on time for dinner. Thanks to my Mum for preparing all the necessary carvings for Leslie birthday. Two days later, she did it again for Ma'ri. I have a great Mum....obvious! We were in Luxembourg for only 3 nights... too short as usual, but school is starting soon.
So on our first morning, woke up not too late to drive to Echternach. The city border Germany and is North-East of Luxembourg....bear in mind that the word "City" in Luxembourg....doesn't always mean a huge megalopolis!
There is a very nice walk from Echternach to the village of Berdorf. The walk is only 7km, and the last time I did it was back in 1992...long time ago. I used to love walking this path when I was a kid....so now that I'm a Dad, I had to bring Leslie here, and Ma'ri was more than happy to be there too. We simply loved the experience, and thanks again to my Mum to play the "chauffeur" that day.
Our second day was spent going around Luxembourg city to shop for things to bring back home in Thailand....foie gras, sauterne, champagne, morilles, chocolate,...and the list goes on and on...Bangkok maybe a paradise to live in, we still love to bring back few delicacies with us....this trip for example, a lot of cheese. That evening was Ma'ri birthday....lovely birthday with my Love!
And yes, it was already time to hit the road again. We drove on the highway to Koblenz before taking the Rhine Valley road. The highway is way faster, but you do not enjoy all these castles on 60km of Rhine Valley road.
We are back home...well, that was true for a few days
ago....as I write this from an airport somewhere in the world! School is back on and Leslie next serious holidays will only be in October...but we will travel before this.
So with love from three of us. I hope you enjoyed following us on our little summer...we loved it! And I'm sorry for my subscribers who receive an email every two days!
See you very soon...somewhere on our little planet!
