Evening All!

Always seems to be sunday when Mr Cwiss blogs these days. This sunday we're just about to watch a film after having a very lazy day - just been out for some Thai food for old time's sake. The slow day was largely result of a late night last night - we were out on the organised get to know do for Lucy's new school. Lucy was concerned it might be a bit awkward and unenjoyable and we might come home at about 10pm. In the event we rolled through the door at 2.30am. They all seem like a nice bunch so I am sure Lucy will be happy there.

The main news since our last blog is the first visit to Vietnam from people from back home. Kira and Stu spent a week with us and we had a great time, unfortunately though, Stuart just failed in his mission to speak to every person in Vietnam, but only just.

Whilst I was at work on the wednesday and thursday Lucy did the Saigon tour and they went to the Cu Chi tunnels for 1 day. It's an amazing network of tunnels the Vietnamese used during the war to hide and then attack the americans - there are hundreds of kilometres of them and it's a very interesting and moving place. At the weekend we went off to the seaside! 3 nights in Mui Ne where we had been before a couple of months ago. Although the weather wasn't perfect we had a great time, lazing by the pool, late nights in the bars and the most memorable bit was maybe the motorbike riding up and down the coast road. The views are spectacular and there is hardly any traffic so we had a great couple of trips on them. We took some video of it but until we figure out how to make it work on this blog you'll just have to imagine it. I think they had a great time in Vietnam unless they are very good liars and no doubt they will be the first of many happy customers Chez Moss! I'll let the pictures tell most of the story of Kira and Stu's visit.

In other news....yesterday I dragged Lucy along to the horse racing which was a lot of fun. The horses are tiny, the jockeys are all about 13 and it was a very amsuing place to spend the afternoon. We got of to a great start - 2 wins out of 2 in the first 2 races but the luck soon ran out and we came out about 80,000 Dong poorer. That's actually only about £3 so it wasn't the end of the world. There was however, a hilarious incident on the way to the races - we just couldn't get across to the taxi driver where we wanted to go, and although he got us nearby, he quickly jumped out to ask people to make sense of the address. In the meantime, feeling kind of stuck we decided to follow the old adage that a picture tells a thousand words and resorted to a trusty notebook and pen. Needless to say, the drawings of a race horse did the job instantly..! Our childlike drawings quite tickled the driver too as you can imagine. Now we need your help to settle the debate - so scroll down to the second page and let us know which is the best drawing.

I'm thinking of buying a vintage Vespa bike - not for everyday use but for a bit of fun and to also bring back to the UK. There's some companies specialising in restoring them so we're just deciding which one to go with right now. So, in preperation for this and also to see if I could hack it, I hired a bike around Saigon 2 sundays ago, and you know what? It was actually OK! The traffic makes more sense when you're actually amongst it and i didn't have any mis haps at all.

The Vietnamese lessons are coming along - slowly. The lessons are fine, it's just that we're too lazy to practice enough. I am at the stage now where I can place a bet on a triple at the horse racing for numbers 3, 6 and 12. Michelle our tutor seems to be turning into a tutor for Vienam in general - last time she taught us how to make spring rolls!

Oh, and by the way, I've just found out I am back for a (very) short time in September. Probably from 7th-10th for a very quick work visit, I would have stayed longer but it's the same time we have Shaun and Gemma over in Vietnam.

I will sign off as Mr Criff Moff - my latest Asian alias and the name they had written down for me when we turned up at a restaurant last week. There are loads of photos on this, you just need to scroll down and go the next page.

Bye for now!

Criff and Lucy

This photo made us laugh. The angle makes it look like Stu has turned into a giant during his time in Vietnam!

thank you
thanks, tres amusant! Saigon looks fascinating, and your spring roll dish looks very tempting! Chris's horse is a bit more like a racehorse than Lucy's, which looks more like a beach donkey! Look forward to reading more, love from all in W'ton Neil
