Today I saw Liverpool through the eyes as a tourist and a former resident with the help of Aunty Brenda.

Being Palm Sunday, Aunty Brenda & I attended a service at the Liverpool Cathedral this morning. It's absolutely enormous - the largest in Europe. They started construction in 1901 and it was officially opened in 1978. Good things take time?
We had lunch in the Refectory (some storage area of the cathedral I think) and was joined by a lively gentleman who gave us a historical account of church and his uncle's involvement in the music.

After lunch we drove around the area, and I saw the very spot on Hope Lane where mum stood with Hugh (then a chubby pink baby) on her graduation day. Granted, it has changed much over 15 years. Hope Lane is a funky little road which joins the Anglican Cathedral with the Catholic Cathedral. My goodness, the Catholic Cathedral is breath-taking! It's built in a circular fashion, with small chapels built into the perimeter. The top of Cathedral with the spikes represents the Crown of Thorns that Jesus wore. Halfway up the road is a monument to famous Liverpudlians shaped as suitcases. A

lot of reconstruction and refurbishment is happening in Liverpool to prepare it for the City of Culture Showcase 2008.
We also wandered around the Liverpool University grounds and I re-traced where we took more photos at mum's graduation. Aunty Brenda brought the album of that fateful day to jog my memory. I was all of 6 years old at the time!

Liverpool is in known for the Liverpool Docks which enabled it to rival London in wealth during the colonial period. We drove around the area and took a tour through the Beatles Museum. It is a very informative place.

Afterwards we drove through good old West Kirby on the Wirral - the last place we lived before coming to NZ. We made important stops to my former church, former home and former school. Ah, the memories! I must admit they are very sparse, however. The lady living in my former house was very friendly and allowed me to take photos in the back garden. It's funny how tiny the house grounds look now, compared to when I was 7. It was also kinda odd rocking up to someone's house and saying that I used to live there!

Humungazoid...

This evening has been a little laid back with a good old visit to movies with Ted & his girlfriend.

Yay, an early night for me tonight (before 2am). Off to London tommorrow arvo!

Thanks heaps for everyone's comments!

Sorry Mike & Glenda - I can't bring you back a nice boy, I'm only allowed 72lbs per piece of luggage! :o)

Easter is coming up soon ya'll. Remember Jesus is the reason for the season!
