Day 4 & 5
Today i’m writing for the last two days as we were too tired to type last night!
The goal for yesterday was to get within striking distance of the town of La Rochelle. A long day, but it would mea n that we would get today to relax and re-couperate as well as to get ready for the next leg of our journey.
We awoke to a clear sky and the sun shining glouriously down upon our tent. So it was up, dressed and away by 8.30 off to the supermarket to find some breakfast and some supplies for the morning. It was here that we met a real nice french man who has just got back from living in london for the last two years. He came and spoke to us several times and said that if we were staying in town another nigt that we would have been more than welcome to stay in his appartement. However, we had a mission to achieve and so we were on our way soon after, and ripping along at 30km/h after heading out of the town.
After riding for a while we came upon a tempting bike path...mistake no 1! This path took us about 10km out of our way but did take us away from the traffic which wasn’t all bad!
We stopped at every supermarket we came to to buy a bottle of water and a munch as it was far too hot to carry more than we absolutly had to. I think we visited 6 or 7 supermarkets in all. I’m pretty sure thats some knid of record.
By the time we were eating lunch it was about 4pm and after 100km! We were well and truly wasted!
We could start to see the end in sight however and managed to find the strength and the energy to push on a further 50km through re claimed farmland and canals to a town just outside La Rochelle where we stumbled into our nicest campsite yet at 8.30pm! As i said a huge day!
We had a very leisurly start to the day today and left the campsite in search of breakfast at about 10am and reached La Rochelle at around 10.30 where we locked our bikes and had a touristy few hours looking round the old parts of the city.
Tragady has also struck, my rack that is on the rear of my bike has broken! Its still just about ridable and i think it will make it untill Biaritz in the south fingers crossed! I’ll let you all know how it goes.
We have just put up our tent on a campsite litteraly 5min walk from the city centre surrounded by marinas. The sun has also just started shining (a first for today) and we are about to go find some food then enjoy what promises to be a great sunny and verry verry chilled evening before another 3 days or so of riding.
The stats from the last two days are;

Day 4
Max; 48.0km/h
Time: 6:21:03
Average speed: 23.2km/h
Distance: 147.30km

Hey Ali, Great reading about your crazy French Adventures. Ha, really who needs a map? Hope your brother has mentally recovered the bug ordeal. Sad to hear that the rack died. Look forward to some pixs. Lots of Luv, Your Canadian Mum.
